Exciting improvements continue at the Humeston Depot Museum! 🚂

Thank you to Danny Lavely for completing the new bridge across the ditch, making access between the Depot Museum and the historic water tower much easier and safer for visitors.

We’d also like to thank Tacy Cummings and Brittany Beck for giving our signs a fresh new look, including the addition of a convenient Open/Closed sign near the depot.

The area around the water tower received a beautiful facelift thanks to Vanden Berg Family Greenhouse Landscaping, whose work has enhanced one of Humeston’s most recognizable landmarks.

Most importantly, none of these improvements would have been possible without the dedication of one of our volunteers, Cheryl Paugh, who worked to secure the grant funding that made these projects a reality. Cheryl’s commitment to preserving and improving our community continues to make a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for her efforts.

These projects are helping preserve and improve our community’s historic attractions for residents and visitors alike.

Be sure to stop by and check out the improvements this Saturday from 1-3! ♥️

🚂✨ The depot is looking fresh and beautiful with a brand new coat of paint!

All of the green trim has been completely repainted, giving the depot a clean, refreshed look while keeping its historic charm. We are so thankful to Kristina Po***ck for the MANY hours she spent painting and working so hard to make the depot shine again. Her dedication and attention to detail truly made a difference!

Be sure to check out the before-and-after photos to see the transformation. (Whole depot shot in comments) Thank you, Kristina, for helping keep our depot looking its best for everyone to enjoy! 💚🎨

🚂 The Humeston Depot Museum is open today from 1–3 PM!

Be sure to stop by and visit with today’s volunteer host, Diane Schroeder. We appreciate all the volunteers who help keep the depot open and welcoming for visitors each week! ❤️

Exciting things are continuing to happen at the depot! If you’ve noticed activity in the front yard between the depot and the water tower, a new footbridge is currently being installed to make it easier for visitors to explore both historic sites.

🚧 The bridge is still under construction and does not yet have railings, so please use caution while crossing.

We’re excited to continue making improvements that help preserve and share Humeston’s history for everyone to enjoy. Stop out today and see what’s new at the depot!

🚂 Looking like another beautiful day to visit the Humeston Depot Museum! ☀️

We’ll be open today from 1–3 PM, so stop in, explore the depot, and take a step back in time.

Today’s volunteer host is Harry, and we’d like to give him a big thank you for spending his afternoon helping keep the depot open for visitors and preserving Humeston history. We appreciate all of our volunteers who help make the museum possible! ❤️

💧 Train Fact of the Day:Steam locomotives needed water almost as badly as they needed coal. That’s why railroad water towers—like the one near our depot—were so important. Some steam engines could use thousands of gallons of water in a single trip!

Come see the history for yourself this afternoon at the depot!

Did you know that National Train Day is celebrated in May to honor the anniversary of the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad completion? 🎉

On May 10, 1869, the final spike—called the “Golden Spike”—was driven in Promontory, Utah, connecting the eastern and western United States by rail for the very first time. 🌎

Trains helped shape small towns just like ours—bringing people, goods, and new opportunities right to the depot! 🚂

To help celebrate the Humeston Depot will be serving ice cream to visitors! Join us for another great day at the depot! 🍨
