When a community needs help, Murrell Aero answers the call.

Over the weekend of March 21, Murrell Aero had the opportunity to assist with volunteer search and rescue efforts in Clifton, Arizona. More than 24 sorties and 13 flight hours were flown, covering nearly 1,000 acres using both thermal and optical sensors.

It was a privilege to support the ongoing effort with safe, methodical operations and contribute to the broader response.

What is NIR?

We were recently asked what NIR actually means.

NIR stands for Near-Infrared. It’s invisible to the human eye, but with the right sensor it allows us to illuminate a scene in total darkness without using a visible spotlight.

This image shows our own vehicle at night, captured from 614 feet away with the aircraft at 300 feet AGL. The only illumination is the Matrice 4TD’s integrated NIR light.

Compared to a high-power visible spotlight, NIR is far less intrusive while still revealing strong detail.

Thermal shows heat.

Together, they give us a serious advantage after dark.
