These travelers are living their best life out west. The Grand Canyon was a bucket list item, so I created an itinerary that encompassed other sites as well:

1st: Sedona, AZ (3 nights)
2nd: Grand Canyon South Rim (3 nights)
3rd: Lake Powell: Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon (2 nights)

Like most of you, I remember exactly where I was and how I felt watching the second plane hit. The impact was felt around the world. Our nation pulled together through love, compassion, and patriotic pride — it was exactly what we needed then, and still need now.

I was living in Key West when I got a call from my roommate's mom asking if we had the TV on. I was home alone, and I stood in utter disbelief and confusion as I watched the second plane hit in real time. Twenty-five years later, I still feel a physical reaction to that scene and everything that unfolded after. Our lives changed irrevocably that day — lost loved ones, uncertainty, fear around every corner. I'm forever grateful for the men and women who risked, and lost, their lives searching for and rescuing others.

I was working at the Gardens Hotel at the time, and one of our guests had offices in the Twin Towers. Every hour, a fax would come through listing his employees who were accounted for — and those still missing. It was chilling. My mom and grandma had been in New York Harbor and had visited the Twin Towers just the day before. With phone lines jammed, there was no way to know if they'd made it out of the city, and I couldn't reach my dad back home in Michigan either. I felt so isolated and confused — and I still can't begin to imagine what it felt like to actually be there.

Please take a moment today to recognize and honor those we lost, those still healing, and everyone whose life was changed by that day.

Just a 7 minute boat ride from Malliouhana, this is the true island vibe. All you will find is a beautiful sand beach, delicious fresh seafood and a drink served with a smile. There is only a shack and some chairs.
