My clients were ready to travel in four months, but almost everything that fit what they wanted was already sold out for their dates😒

So instead of starting with what's perfect, I had to start with what's actually available and work backwards from there….

They needed a very specific room configuration and I struggled to get them exactly what they wanted for the dates they needed without going way over budget… we went back and forth for weeks with different resorts and even checked different destinations until eventually we were left with no other options😔

These clients decided to change their travel dates by a couple days and that did the trick! I found a great fit for them that checked all the boxes!😎

When it comes to traveling in peak times, sometimes it helps to have a little flexibility, even if it’s just a day or two!! I’m so grateful to these clients for being patient and trusting the process!

It was barely light when we met our guide at the edge of the Monteverde cloud forest in Costa Rica. Mist hung in the trees and the air smelled like wet moss…

Our guide walked slowly, stopped often, and listened to the forest. Then he set up his spotting scope, pointed it into a wild avocado tree, and whispered “Look."

There it was.

We held our breath and looked in awe. He moved the scope a few branches over. A second quetzal. And then, as if the forest was showing off, a third.

Quetzals are shy, famously hard to find, and the Maya considered them sacred. They are a rare sighting to see in Costa Rica and we saw three😍
We would have walked right past all three without our guide!!

Moments like this are why I plan trips the way I do! When it comes to Costa Rica, you need a guide for at least one of your hikes!! I promise, you won’t regret it!

Costa Rica has six different areas to explore and where you stay changes everything. Here's a quick guide:

Arenal/ La Fortuna: Volcano views, hot springs, waterfall hikes, and white-water rafting. Great for first-timers.

Monteverde: Misty cloud forest, hanging bridges, zip lines, and night walks. Cooler temps and more peaceful.

Guanacaste: Sunny, dry Pacific coast with big beaches, surf towns, and luxury resorts. Best for relaxing.

Manuel Antonio: Rainforest meets beach. Easy wildlife spotting (sloths and monkeys!) and a mix of adventure and downtime.

Osa Peninsula/ Corcovado: Remote and wild, with some of the most biodiverse land on Earth. For travelers who want true off-the-grid nature.

Caribbean Coast: Tortuguero's turtle nesting and canals, plus Puerto Viejo's Afro-Caribbean culture and laid-back vibe. Its weather runs on a different schedule than the Pacific side.

Timing tip: Dry season (Dec–April) is the most popular. Green season (May–Nov) means fewer crowds, lower prices, and lush scenery, with rain mostly in the afternoons.

We are officially back from our month long road trip out west! Grant and I checked out 15 national parks and 13 states… yes we know we are a little crazy🤣😱

Grant likes to drive and I like to see EVERYTHING!! Haha

Pretty sure my travel insurance didn’t cover this part😅

Funny thing is, that might literally be true.

Many standard policies exclude or limit adventure activities like cliff jumping, zip lining, or rock climbing unless you add coverage…

Before your next trip, check:
-What activities are excluded
-Medical and evacuation coverage (remote areas get expensive fast)
-Trip cancellation and interruption
