A man who without a thought, laid his life on the line! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

On this day, 13 years ago, August 28, 2013, 33-year-old Staff Sergeant Earl D. Plumlee instantly responded to a catastrophic attack on Forward Operating Base Ghazni in Afghanistan.

A massive 400-pound vehicle-borne explosive had just torn a 60-foot breach in the perimeter wall.
Ten insurgents wearing Afghan National Army uniforms and rigged with su***de vests flooded through the smoking opening.

Plumlee, a former Marine Reconnaissance man turned Army Green Beret, jumped into a truck with five other special operations soldiers.
They raced directly toward the detonation site to stop the infiltration.

Their driver purposefully maneuvered the vehicle into enemy fire to shield three dismounted teammates who were already fighting for their lives.
Taking heavy fire from the front and right, Plumlee threw his own body across the driver to shield him from the incoming rounds.

His primary weapon, a sniper rifle, was trapped in the back of the truck.
He bailed out of the vehicle, drew his pistol, and immediately engaged an insurgent 15 meters away.
With complete disregard for his own safety and exposed to enemy fire, he advanced on the infiltrators with only his handgun.

Reaching cover, Plumlee killed two attackers.
He dispatched one with a hand gr***de and killed the second by detonating the insurgent's su***de vest with a precision pistol shot.

He then left his covered position and pushed forward alone against multiple hostiles.

An insurgent detonated a su***de vest just seven meters from his position.

The sheer force of the blast blew Plumlee back against a nearby wall and wounded him.
Ignoring his injuries, he immediately regained his footing and reengaged the enemy force.

Intense fire temporarily forced him back, but he quickly linked up with a small group of American and Polish soldiers to launch a counterattack.
Moving forward again, Plumlee shot an insurgent to his front left.

He then spun around to engage another fighter charging the group from the rear.
That insurgent detonated his vest, mortally wounding a fellow American soldier.

Under heavy fire, Plumlee ran out to the wounded soldier, picked him up, and carried him to safety to administer first aid.

He then systematically cleared the rest of the area and held a security posture to scan for any remaining threats.

Plumlee survived the brutal close-quarters fight and continued his career in the United States Army.
For his extraordinary heroism and willingness to repeatedly face down heavily armed enemy at point-blank range, Plumlee was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2021.

He was promoted to Master Sergeant and eventually retired in 2023 after decades of service.

We are relocating a flagpole that we installed years ago for Mr. Williams. The tree has grown and the flagpole must be moved to the other side of the driveway so that the flag can fly properly. We will take care of it!
As always, we thank Mr. Williams for his service! ♥️🇺🇸
