What would change in your life if driving wasn’t an option?

Does an errand or a doctor’s appointment become an all-day activity? Does a job become a question of whether you can get there and not whether you can do the work?

Nearly a third of the people in our community are nondrivers. They are young people and seniors, people with disabilities or people who just can't afford gas this week.

October 1st through 8th is the WEEK WITHOUT DRIVING. Take a moment this week to consider how your life would change if you couldn't drive. Try walking or riding your bike instead. Hop on your local bus or share your next ride with a friend. Experience your daily routine thinking about how others might get around differently.

A big heads up to folks traveling north on US101! The Jefferson Transit Authority bus that connects with GHT and *all* traffic will be impacted by these full closures for bridge repairs. Please see the WSDOT project page linked for updates and exact dates.

UPDATE: Overnight closures will now begin Tuesday, Sept. 15, instead of the originally scheduled start date of Monday, Sept. 14.

ATTENTION, OLYMPIC PENINSULA TRAVELERS! The US 101 Hoh River Bridge requires emergency repairs that will prevent your ability to make a complete loop around the peninsula for the better part of three weeks. Please read the details below carefully, reference the map, and adjust your travels as needed:

The US 101 Hoh River Bridge south of Forks needs emergency repairs. This bridge is 95 years old, and while it CAN be repaired, it requires nighttime closures starting Tuesday, Sept. 15, and around-the-clock closures starting Thursday, Sept. 24.

NIGHTTIME CLOSURES: Tuesday, Sept. 15, to Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

AROUND-THE-CLOCK CLOSURES:
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, to noon Tuesday, Oct. 6
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, to noon Tuesday, Oct. 13

This means travelers heading NORTH to visit the Hoh Rainforest, Forks, Rialto Beach, or La Push and travelers heading SOUTH to visit Ruby Beach, the Quinault Rainforest, or the Kalaloch beaches will need to prepare for hours-long detours during these closures.

We understand this is a major inconvenience, and crews will work very hard to get this work finished as soon as possible.

Service Alert and FUN Alert! GHT will be participating in the Elks Grand Parade in Hoquiam this Saturday. We have over 60 pounds of candy to giveaway – just look for our bus on the parade route!

HOWEVER, due to the parade, the Hoquiam Transit Center will be closed all day Saturday and all buses will move to a temporary stop at Central Elementary School on Simpson. Regular Saturday schedules will be in place with delays possible due to traffic.

SERVICE ALERT: All GHT services and offices will be CLOSED Monday, September 7, for Labor Day. No buses will be running.

Labor Day is one of six days every year when all transit departments get to hang up their safety gear and take the day off. We're thankful for their dedicated public service! Pictured here are some of our recent employees of the quarter.
