Refurbished Rebel 16 " #2" is heading to her new home. Cleaned-up, hull painted, new stripes and decals, sails cleaned, new halyards and sheets (from our Partner Samson Rope Technologies), repaired a hole from an old transom bailer, installed mast step hooks/bolt, new trailer winch and new trailer jack. She's lookin spiffy! Not bad for 43 years old!

I am so happy to see our Rebel 16 going to a young family and continue sailing.

Remember Bagel's long lost Rebel 16 sistership?

She has been sold and is getting finished-up and ready for her new sailor family! A gentleman from downstate loves to sail and wants to take his family out with him. Unfortunately, it is difficult because he currently has a Minifish, a 12' version of a Sunfish. So, I am taking his Minifish in on trade for our Rebel 16.

She's been cleaned, inspected, sanded/faired and gunnels painted. Next is installing the mast step hooks, add the sheer and boot stripes, MC numbers and decals. Lastly, replace the Halyards, sheets and control lines with our donated sail braid from Samson Rope Technologies.

I am anticipating splashing and delivering on Saturday or Sunday.

Very excited to see this Rebel 16 being used as a family boat!

15knts with gusts to 20knts, so main only until the storm passes.

Audry, one of our key volunteers decided to take video while I fought the weather helm...wind is down now and jib is back up! Resume party!

Good times!

* A little context: I not only teach how to sail, but, I teach my advanced students how to sail SAFELY in high winds and seas. This is because there is a likelihood that a student could go out in calm weather and end up in challenging weather. I teach them how to handle the boat at it's wind and wave limits so they know how to handle inclement weather. I choose days like this for this type of instruction. I want to make sure the sailor has the confidence to get their boat and crew back to port or make passage in extreme, but safe conditions.

'Bagel', our 1970 Rebel 16, joined 'Smurfy' - our 1965 Tanzer M16 Scow - at to Brookside Lake Resort on Duck Lake in Grawn, Michigan today. Thank you so very much to Brookside Cottages and Resort for hosting Tempest Sailing & Restoration for lessons and rentals.

Very little wind, but Bagel still moves! I did need to paddle a "few" times...ok, I definitely paddled more than I have paddled on a canoe trip down the Platte River! LoL

Quite a few "spectators" at the Interlochen State Park launching ramp into Duck Lake while I stepped the mast and launched Bagel by myself. One of the points of interest is I have a wireless hitch on the front of our Wrangler. I attach the boat on the front of the Jeep so I can use the winch to step the mast. On Bagel I really only use the winch to hold the mast while I attach the forestay - much safer than a block and tackle. I then launch these smaller boats from the front most of the time. It's a pretty simple system that helps me minimize overexertion. A few Jeep Wrangler fans showed up too and called our Big Foot Wrangler "sick" lol.

So, Bagel is now on the lift, Smurfy on a mooring that I installed today and both are ready for sailors to rent or take lessons.

Big day for us here at Tempest Sailing!
