commends all for the safe water rescue Friday night. Those efforts through our partners in law enforcement, fire and EMS assisted in saving the lives of two fishermen who were stranded in the Raritan Bay off Union Beach.

It began when the Monmouth County 911 Center received a cell phone call from the fisherman who were several hundred yards off shore, stranded in the water and could not swim due to weather conditions. Although there was a language barrier the dispatcher gathered enough information to determine the location of the fishermen in the Union Beach/Keyport area.

The Monmouth County Marine Task Force responded along with 's Marine 1, a combined crew of sheriff's office personnel and a member of Middletown's Brevent Park Fire Department task force. The responding crew got close enough to rescue one of the fishermen but water conditions did not allow them to get to the second.

As a result a US Coast Guard helicopter responded from Atlantic city and with the assistance of the NJSP Marine Services Bureau the fisherman was hoisted into the helicopter and transported to local EMS for treatment.

Assisting in the rescue were Keyport & Union Beach EMS, Union Beach PD, Union Beach OEM & Monmouth County OEM.
