During a down market when freight rates are low, you need to find ways to boost your rate per mile. One way is obtaining certain permits or licenses depending on your operating areas. For example, you can apply for a liquor license from Kentucky if you see a possibility on getting a dedicated lane transporting alcohol to and from KY. Another example would be applying for a TWIC card. TWIC allows truckers to enter secure federal facilities without having to pre-screen every time, and enter maritime ports without an authorized es**rt.
