Walmart holds suppliers to a 98 percent on-time, in-full standard, and the average supplier loses 5.8 percent of invoice value to deductions. Those numbers hurt, but they are only half the story.
The chargeback is the penalty you can see. The one you cannot see is the scorecard. A weak quarter makes the buyer cautious, and a cautious buyer quietly trims your next allocation, shrinking revenue in a way that never appears on a deduction report. And these programs penalize early shipments just like late ones, whether or not the cause was in your control.
