Stormy Petrel II We offer fishing charters from Hatteras, NC USA for groups of seven or more anglers! The hull of the Stormy Petrel II is solid fiberglass.

The Stormy Petrel II is 61' long overall and she was built in Kennebunk, Maine by Dwight Raymond in 1996. She has a USCG Inspection for 44 passengers up to 100 miles offshore from Cape May, NJ to Cape Lookout, NC. We have all of the necessary safety equipment and undergo annual inspections by the Coast Guard. Her power comes from two Detroit Diesels (671 turbos - about 425 hp each) with top speed

of about 20 knots. Our engines were recently overhauled after many years of trouble free operation. Unlike most charter boats, our boat has a full walk-around deck, and our bathrooms (two) are at deck level with household toilets. There is an incredible amount of deck space, especially up front, so in addition to fishing, she is ideal for cruises and wildlife viewing! Her stability while drifting in big seas is exceptional, such that we are able to operate safely and comfortably in conditions which would be miserable on most other boats.

Eric Miller chartered our boat for two days of fishing offshore last week. Had to deal with some rain and a bit of wind, but we scrapped out a catch each day. It was mostly Blackfin Tuna and Blueline Tilefish, but we also caught a few dolphin, sea bass, and a wahoo.

We’ve been up at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center for three weeks now. In that time we’ve run 25 half day charters and a few offshore trips. Fished 19 out of 21 days. Not gonna do that in Hatteras with all the sou’westers. Been some good days and some scrappy days. Thanks to everyone who fished with us!

We started down near The Point this morning and wandered around finding lots of scattered grass and lots of Skipjack Tuna, but very few dolphin. Closer to the shelf break after lunchtime there were quite a few Blackfins and we caught a couple of keeper Yellowfins and lost another to a shark.

July 7th. Out first offshore trip from the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center was a good one. We scrapped out a few dolphin way offshore and trolling back to the break we caught a nice Wahoo and really nice Yellowfin Tuna: 107 pounds.

A special thanks to the Langford clan who has been fishing with us every June for almost 20 years. We had subpar conditions with badly scattered grass and heavy current, but we stuck with it and caught some Blackfin and Skipjack Tuna. See ya’ll next year!

Fishing has been scrappy, but we actually had a couple of pretty days before the wind picked up again hard from the south. The weather has been a disaster here in Hatteras for weeks now. I’m looking forward to next month when we get to the Fishing Center. Sou’westers don’t shut us down up there. Badly scattered grass and current made yesterday almost unbearable but we still managed to catch a few fish. Most of our people get it, but some don’t. If you’ve been with us you know we go above and beyond.

Heading to the east is usually a good plan for finding some dolphin, but conditions were a bit different on Tuesday. So we shifted gears and did some jigging and later some trolling for tuna. Managed to put together a catch with Matt and his family on their first trip with us.

Spanish Mackerel fishing has been pretty good, but this week’s weather has not. Lost a couple of trips here in Hatteras because of it. In a couple of weeks we’ll be at Oregon Inlet and sou’westers won’t shut us down.
