As we move on in our discussions about new container weight regulations and the infrastructure repairs that are taking place at ports all over the country in preparation for megaships, we see the Port of Miami has boasted a 20% increase in container traffic in January. After nearly $1 billion in infrastructure improvements were made, including dredging the harbor to fifty feet to accommodate the larger ships, Miami is a lesson in how the new investments in our ports should improve ocean traffic. As it stands right now, the Ports of Miami and Virginia are the only southeastern ports that can accommodate post-panama vessels.

Should the timing delays prove inconsequential, a good possibility as the delay will ease some east coast port congestion; we may see an entirely new maritime traffic pattern open up.

Posted on March 3, 2016 by Hann Livingston On January 1st the Wall Street Journal posted an article detailing the importance of the expansion of the Panama Canal. This spring, once the canal is open and new megaships are traveling through, east coast ports are banking on the cargo they're bringing through to help further increase their current growth projections.

KFS is honored to be a part of a group of thought leaders at the Amerijet 2015 Global Conference, in Reno, NV. As forwarders provide solutions for clients, so too should the carriers. Read on to see the important issues we all face.

Posted on January 20, 2016 by Hann Livingston From lovely Reno, NV, I appeared alongside a panel of freight forwarders courtesy of Amerijet to discuss the needs we have, as forwarders, when choosing and using a carrier for international cargo. Topics included current events concerning air freight, customer service, and awareness of some issues that pester our industry.

During massive peak seasons where shipping needs and pick and pack services are premium, we are able to step in a alleviate some of the burden for overloaded warehouses or act as an intermediary due to our strategic location in the south east.

Posted on December 18, 2015 by Tom Hooper The U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service and FedEx expect a year-end surge in parcel delivery, fueled by booming online shopping during the holiday season. As we wind down 2015 we eagerly anticipate another amazing year in logistics as 2016 dawns. We all expect new challenges and continued growth into 2016, but are prepared to deal with some interesting new ocean regulations coming up in July.
