Bilge Pump & Float Switch Wiring Diagram - Standard (non-automatic) pump version. While I do love the modern automatic bilge pumps - like Rule’s Lo-Pro 900 Auto - one of my favorites - BUT - I don’t approve of an automatic bilge pump as a sole/primary pump in a vessel that spends the season in a slip or on a mooring. I’ve seen too may fail - so even tho one great thing about automatic pumps is getting almost all of the water out of the boat, the auto-function only needing an inch or so, compared to the 3-4” a float switch requires to activate - standard pumps are more rugged, less complicated and less prone to failure. A little trick I learned years ago - tape some styrofoam to the under-side of your float switch - and she’ll jump right outta that water and keep the pump running longer. Works great. Any input on the topic? I’d love to hear some opinions! And happy Friday😎
