***Attention Club Pilots: For those of you who have not heard yet, because of budgets cuts the FAA has been forced to close 149 control towers nationwide, which will directly effect our local operations.
For Massachusetts and New Hampshire; Lawrence, Beverly, Worcester, Norwood, New Bedford and Nashua will be closing starting April 7th.
Although we are all familiar with uncontrolled airport operations, these airports are the busiest in our area for student training, and safety will be compromised with the loss of each tower.
Please be sure to review your uncontrolled airport procedures, and seek extra instruction from a club CFI if you are uncomfortable with flying into an uncontrolled airport. It is our responsibility as pilots to keep ourselves and other pilots operating around us safe!
**Tips to Remember at Uncontrolled Airports
- Make appropriate/correct entries into the traffic pattern
- Constantly announce your position over the CTAF or UNICOM
- Keep your eyes outside the airplane and scan for other traffic
