Man…
All work and no play is what it’s been. We’re in the middle of a heavy river season at the warehouse. My wood projects have been on hold for months now, but in a few weeks there will be time for me to finish the 12 oars I’ve been slowly whittling away. Don’t get me wrong, I love my new job, but it feel good to get those sticks done and see who gets to take them on the water where they belong

Raindog is back to work! Last night I finished up these psychedelic looking oars for some river guide friends. It’s been over a year since I’ve done any kind of woodworking. I can’t tell how good it feels to have access to an unbelievable workspace like the . Once the river season is done at , I’ll be able to build a bunch more of these hopefully.

Got to say hi to some old friends today. The last Gunnimoon I built almost two years, and the Fretwater Crew. They’ve been tasked with putting some of the finishing touches on the boat by the owner. Hope I didn’t create too much of a headache for those folks 😬

Well folks, you may have noticed my social media has been rather quiet the last couple of months. I’ve got some major news. Good news and sad news. I am moving to Portland Oregon to begin a new job as the logistics coordinator for the Lewis and Clark College outdoors program. I’m very excited about this opportunity for so many reasons! I’ll be training students to become outdoor leaders and guides, managing the warehouse, and running the rafting program.

While this is a dream job in so many ways for me, it does mean I have to close my shop. I probably will not be building any new boats for quite some time, but down the road I do plan on having a shop again. Raindog Boatworks is not over! I’ll still keep you up to date on the adventures of me and my boats. I am quite excited to explore the holy waters of the Pacific Northwest with “Raindog” and “Joshua Tree.”

Thank you to all for your support over the years, and thank you for your continued support for what the future holds! We’ll see you downstream.

I’ve had a few folks ask how the run was through Hell’s Half Mile back in July. Here it is at about 1000 cfs.

Seeing this again is getting me excited for boating season to begin! Maybe we can get on some spring time flows at some lower latitudes soon!

Plans for your very own will be available soon! Working hard to get them ready for Christmas. DM me if you want plans to build a boat this winter!

Sorry for the radio silence folks! Unfortunately life gets in the way of boat building sometimes.

Stay tuned! I’ll be posting some more footage from last summer’s and action!

Here’s the run though Sunshine Rapid in the Doryak back from the Royal Gorge Race. While the run in this rapid went pretty smooth, I’ll be honest and say that Wall Slammer and the run out in late evening light would have been better with more water. Only one hole in the floor though! Might do a repair post later on if you all would find that interesting.

While it’s been a pretty fun summer on the water (Grand Canyon, Brown’s, Royal Gorge, and Lodore), I’ve been keeping busy on a new Gunnimoon as well. This is some old footage from a few weeks ago. It’s a lot further along now.
