INDOT East Central Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) updates for East Central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Kokomo, Muncie, and Richmond.

The Greenfield District is responsible for maintaining 4,375 lane miles of state roads, 1,300 lane miles of interstate, 1,366 large culverts, 1,133 state bridges, 194 snow routes, 539 traffic signals, 146 flashers, 51,500 road signs, and 1,500 panel signs. There are five sub-districts (Albany, Cambridge, Greenfield, Indianapolis and Tipton) and 15 counties (Delaware, Fayette, Hamilton, Hancock, He

nry, Howard, Jay, Madison, Marion, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Tipton, Union and Wayne) within the Greenfield District.

Drivers should prepare for overnight lane closures on I-465 at the U.S. 31 interchange this weekend and early next week.

Friday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 9:

WB I-465 will be reduced to 1 lane from mile marker 32 to 30.5 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Saturday, June 6 and Monday, June 8:

EB I-465 will be reduced to 1 lane from mile marker 30 to 31.5 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Project Greenlight is INDOT's initiative to increase worker safety at night or times of low visibility by equipping crews with green guardian angel safety lights.

These lights add a flashing green pattern to crew members' safety gear, making them 89% more visible to the traveling public, and visible from more than 3,700 feet away.

Tonight, (June 4), crews will temporarily close the NB Meridian Street ramp to EB I-465 from around 7 p.m. until early Friday morning for bridge demolition.

The detour for this route is to travel WB on I-465 from NB Meridian Street, exit at Michigan Road, proceed SB on Michigan Road, and then re-enter EB I-465.

Intermittent rolling slowdowns and a right lane closure will also be in place between I-465 and 116th street on U.S. 31 from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday.

Drivers on NB and SB U.S. 31 should merge left into the open lanes.

A new traffic pattern will impact State Road 3 in New Castle, beginning on or after Monday, June 8. 🔀🚗

Drivers will now utilize the rebuilt southbound lanes for both NB and SB travel while the NB lanes are rebuilt. ✅

Indiana intersections where an RCI was installed saw a greater than 80% reduction in injury and fatal crashes.

They provide the same safety benefit as a roundabout at half the cost, and come at nearly the same cost as a traffic signal with twice the safety benefit.
