A great weekend at the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon, VA. A very welcoming community that puts on an excellent event. The best part was the event was free to the public and sponsored by local businesses and patrons in an effort to bring some fun and enjoyment to their neighbors. It doesn't get any better than that. Thank you to everyone for welcoming us, giving us a police and fire es**rt to the launch field, and making us feel at home.

We would like to thank the Rising Stars Hot Air Balloon Team for all of their hard work this weekend setting up and recovering for the glow and flight. It was an honor to be asked to pilot Rising Stars this weekend and represent them and the balloon community in Abingdon. We are already looking forward to next year!

EDIT: Sunday night’s activities were canceled due to weather. However, some of them have been rescheduled for Sunday, August 9. Although the other balloons will not be able to return, we plan to be back with Air Apparent to make its inaugural appearance in Abingdon, stand up and let people take an up close look between 6:00 - 8:30 pm.

I have it on good authority that Highlands Air Rescue is scheduled to send a helicopter between 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Please come out and say hello to the Highlands Air Rescue and Air Apparent Balloon teams.

An awesome event with great people and an incredible group of balloonists. Everyone came together at the ALCOVETS Balloon Festival to raise money for veterans programs and support an amazing cause. What a welcoming organization, beautiful flying, and an all-around fun time. It was truly great to be part of an event filled with camaraderie, generosity, and a shared passion for ballooning.

We always love to fly, but some days things just come together for the perfect flight and a special occasion. Today we got to participate in a proposal flight. And the best part, SHE SAID YES! Congratulations to Stephanie and Matt on their engagement. Air Apparent and her entire crew wish you both all of life’s best, and a lifetime of happiness together!!
