Thank you to all the first responders and good Samaritans that helped our Life EMS Ambulance crew and their patient after being struck on US-131 last week. We are so thankful for the kind, caring people that were willing to stop to help and for our amazing community partners that answered the call.

While it is impossible to name everyone without risking the omission of someone deserving, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all who have contributed in any capacity.

We are forever grateful.

Thank you to Paws With A Cause ® for coming to our Grand Rapids location on Wednesday and sharing the puppy love and great food from Mad Dogz during EMS Week! Life EMS associates love to walk into a garage full of dogs before/after their shifts and we are happy to help with the dogs' journey to becoming a service animal. Even Koko, the Life EMS facility dog was willing to participate in the training.

Life EMS hosted a blood drive this EMS Week in anticipation of a new, exciting program launching this summer in our Kalamazoo operations that will allow paramedics to administer blood transfusions at emergency scenes and during transport to the hospital. This move is in collaboration with the Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority (KCMCA), Beacon Healthcare and Bronson Healthcare Group and is aimed at improving survival for patients experiencing severe blood loss. Yesterday marked an exciting milestone in EMS education as the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services (MAAS) hosted the inaugural Michigan High School EMS Skills Challenge during the annual statewide EMS Expo. Seventeen teams from across Michigan came together to compete for the title of the state’s top high school EMS team. Among the participants, Life EMS proudly supported teams from its EMT programs at the Innovation Central High School (Grand Rapids Public Schools), Kent Career Tech Center (Kent Intermediate School District), and Grandville High School lead by Life EMS instructors Jason Perton, Rae Kasinger and Kristy Rieger. These teams faced a competition designed to test their real-world emergency medical skills, showcasing their dedication and preparedness.

A special congratulations goes to Landon Kohmescher and Alexandra Sackett from the Kent Career Technical Center, who triumphed by winning the 1st place trophy. Their achievement highlights not only their individual talent but also the quality of EMS training provided at their school.

We also want to commend all the EMT students and programs that took part in this landmark event. This inaugural competition stands as a powerful testament to the strength and promise of EMS education across West Michigan, inspiring the next generation of emergency responders to continue honing their skills and serving their communities with excellence.
