Today’s Post-Session Legislative Luncheon at Timberlake Lodge Hotel gave our Chamber members and public partners the opportunity to hear directly from legislators representing our region about the 2026 legislative session, what was accomplished, what remains unfinished, and what issues will continue to impact northern Minnesota businesses and communities.

Thank you to Senator Steve Green, Senator Grant Hauschild, Senator Keri Heintzeman, Senator Rob Farnsworth, Representative Spencer Igo, and Representative Roger Skraba for taking the time to join us, share updates, and answer questions from our members.

Today’s conversation touched on many of the priorities and questions important to our region, including natural resource industries, environmental permitting, sulfate regulations, energy reliability, bonding and infrastructure, rural healthcare, housing, labor law changes, school funding, tax policy, and support for small businesses.

We also extend our appreciation to Congressman Pete Stauber, Senator Tina Smith, and Senator Amy Klobuchar for sending messages to be shared with attendees.

Direct access to elected officials is one of the important benefits provided to Chamber members. These conversations help ensure the priorities, concerns, and opportunities facing our region are heard and remain part of the larger discussion at the Capitol and beyond.

A special thank you to Minnesota Power an ALLETE Company, for sponsoring today’s luncheon and supporting this important conversation.

It was such a great day celebrating International Women in Mining Day, and I appreciated the opportunity to connect with you, Amy, along with so many leaders from across the Iron Range who are engaged in and supportive of our mining industry. Thank you to the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota and MiningMinnesota for bringing people together for such a meaningful and energizing event!

We’re excited to welcome Grace back to the Grand Rapids Area Chamber working in our Visitor Center!

Grace is a local high school student who stays plenty busy. When she’s not welcoming visitors to our area and pointing them to our valued members for dining, fun attractions, music events, shopping or lodging, she also teaches dance and cleans cabins at a local resort.

We’re grateful to have her friendly face and helpful attitude back for another summer. Be sure to say hello and welcome her when you call the Chamber or stop in!

Meet Our Chamber Ambassadors!

This summer, we’re excited to introduce you to the incredible volunteers who serve as Grand Rapids Area Chamber Ambassadors.

Our Ambassadors are an official committee of Chamber volunteers who help welcome new members, celebrate business milestones, support existing members, and serve as the face of the Chamber at ribbon cuttings, luncheons, events, and throughout the community.

They give their time, energy, and encouragement to help strengthen our business community - and we quite literally would not have the capacity to do all that the Chamber does without them.

To kick off our first Ambassador Spotlight, we’re proud to recognize our longest-serving Chamber Ambassador, Rebecca Gilbert!

Rebecca has served as a Chamber Ambassador since 2014, bringing more than 10 years of dedication!

Rebecca is an Executive Closer/Business Development professional with The Title Team, and we are so grateful for the time, care, and positive energy she continues to share with the Chamber.

Please join us in thanking Rebecca for her many years of service as a Chamber Ambassador!

Today’s Chamber luncheon was a meaningful mix of celebrating local students, supporting our members, and learning more about how information reaches us online.

We were honored to welcome two of our 2026 Chamber Scholarship recipients, Addison Meyer of Bigfork and Adam Jacobson of Grand Rapids, who shared excerpts from their scholarship applications with our members. While Allexa Alzen and Tessa Weddle were unable to join us today, we are equally proud to recognize all four students as they take their next steps.

A special thank you to our scholarship sponsor, Mesabi Metallics , whose generosity helped make it possible for the Chamber to award four $1,000 scholarships this year.

We also welcomed Gabby Jerulle from the Grand Rapids Herald-Review, who shared information on why we see what we see in our online feeds, how data shapes marketing, how businesses can use that information to better connect with customers, and how each of us can - at no cost - help strengthen and uplift the good in our community. Abby Oxborough from Sugar Lake Lodge shared ways they've utilized this knowledge implementing marketing and community engagement strategies.

One of the biggest takeaways? What we like, share, view, and engage with becomes part of our algorithm - and it can also impact what the people around us see. Gabby reminded us that while difficult or controversial topics often garner greater attention (shares/likes/comments), the positive stories, local news, community events, and moments worth celebrating can reach more people if they are given that same level of activity - and it will help ensure we see more of those positive things in our own feeds. As she shared, “If we all ever amplify the things we’re upset about, we can unintentionally miss the things worth celebrating.” That social media can be a powerful medium to unite us, rather than divide us - all based on how we use it.

Thank you to Gabby and the Herald-Review for sponsoring and presenting today, and thank you to our members for continuing to show up, learn, connect, and help strengthen our community.
