We've been so fortunate to have wonderful students at NHA. Many have brought with them experiences that have reinforced what we are training them for. Jake Rhoades was one of those. He has been a line tech at Sweet Aviation for the past couple years, racking up hours flying, learning to work with people and airplanes while working toward his Certified Flight Instructor rating. He reached that goal on 5/22/2026 and officially became a CFI! We're proud of your hard work and perseverance, Jake!

And actually, we were so proud of him, 3 days later we added him to our NHA staff as a flight instructor! Welcome Jake!! We love having you on board! His schedule is open to accept new students and he is eager to fly! You're gonna love him as much as we do!

Each of the last number of years at NHA we have enjoyed working with a few High School students who have set up work-based learning internships. Blake Miller started his training in the Fall of 2025 through Fairfield HS's program and completed his private pilot training with a successful check ride on May 20, 2026. His energy and smile will be missed at NHA as he moves on to study aviation at college in the Fall. It's been great, Blake! We'll welcome you back anytime!

The Waters brothers, Nick and Jordan, have trained together from the beginning. It's been fun to see their progress and friendly competition, motivating each other to keep moving ahead! On May 14, 2026 we had a first at New Horizons with two family members receiving their commercial pilot's licenses on the same day! CFI candidates finish up their training quickly compared to other ratings. They already know the details of flying, and training is focused on learning to teach. With Andrew Maciejewski we wish we could have kept him around longer, but he breezed through and collected his CFI in March and his CFII on May 11, 2026. We sure enjoyed flying with you, Andrew! Nic Miller's introduction to airplanes and love of aviation was fueled by his dad when Nic was just a kid in Ohio. Years later, Nic turned his dreams about flying into reality and on May 7, 2026 he successfully completed his Private Pilot check ride! Bringing his love of flying full circle, he then flew to the Ohio airport where he & his dad used to go to watch planes. With his extended family waiting to greet him, he surprised his dad who didn't know he was taking flight lessons! What a gift they both gave to each other! Congratulations Nic! Let me tell you about Paxton Garner. He has been an aviation enthusiast for a LONG time and that's saying something since he is just headed into his Jr year of high school! Paxton's enthusiasm landed him his Private Pilot license on April 30th, just after his 17th birthday. He is dedicated, responsible and a hard worker, evidenced by the job he does keeping our airplanes & hangar clean! We're proud of you, Paxton! Congratulations!
