High Hill Cycles is temporarily closed.
Yesterday, Gold Beach, Oregon was home to what many have called an oasis for bikepackers. Alyson and Michael put every effort into creating an environment that was welcoming to every open mind. Wow, did we meet a lot of epically interesting people - all of them with fascinating stories to share.
Alyson and Michael determined that the safest and most preservative course of action had us empty out the shop on Ellensburg Ave. and seek a new space where we can apply our approach and craft. You will see.
A bicycle shop is a precious thing in a community. A bicycle shop is a place where creatives, adventurists, community players, and marginalized people of all ages and types can find a place to share their story, and get their bicycle(s) working more reliably. A bicycle shop is a home to the youthful of mind and/or body; the curious; the seekers; the players; the radicals; and the reclusive.
Bicycles are a source of personal pride and expression for every person fortunate enough to experience riding one. Many people, in these particularly difficult times, find a sort of centered personal enablement, quiet, and peace by pedaling around the countryside or even to-and-from work. It was, is, and will one day soon be our privilege to again bring joy to the community through our belief that the world is better on two wheels.
Gold Beach, Oregon is in a spectacular location. The weather is awesome. The gravel road riding opportunities cannot be beat anywhere in the world. We made scores of real friends here and we will keep close to them.
A very special thank you to the people who helped us collect and move our things last night. We will not mention you by name, as Gold Beach does have a dark river running through it - thus the immediate exit of High Hill. We reject and curse the darkness and live always in the light.
We are going riding for a few days.
Watch this space for updates and pics of our adventures.
We are happy to answer any questions.
