Did you know organized waste management dates back thousands of years? Archaeologists have discovered ancient landfill sites dating as far back as 3000 B.C., and around 500 B.C., the city of Athens created one of the earliest known garbage disposal systems.

TRASH TRUTHS: 3 Things That May Surprise You 👀

You probably don’t think much about what happens after the trash truck leaves your driveway… but we thought it would be fun to share some really cool facts about the trash industry that just might surprise you!

1️⃣ Batteries thrown in the trash can actually start fires in garbage trucks and recycling facilities. 🔥

2️⃣ A fully loaded garbage truck can weigh more than 50,000 pounds. That’s heavier than many fire trucks and construction vehicles. 🚛

3️⃣ Pizza boxes usually CAN’T be recycled if they’re greasy. The grease can contaminate other recyclable materials. 🍕
