True sustainability isn't about choosing sides; it's about finding balance.

While Maryland pushes $100-$500 million per new mile rail projects, our roads need just $1-$5 million per new mile to keep connecting communities safely and efficiently.

When we shift funding from road maintenance to chase single-pillar solutions, we create gaps that hurt everyone.

Asphalt infrastructure supports all three sustainability pillars:
▪️Environmental (100% recyclable)
▪️Economic (cost-effective at low lifecycle costs)
▪️Social (connecting communities from highways to home).

Let's invest in solutions that work for Maryland's future, sustainably, economically, and socially.

Here's what we mean by balanced sustainability: https://mdasphalt.org/2025/balanced-sustainability/

The 9th Annual Scholarship Blast was a resounding success, drawing over 70 shooters to the range for a day of sport and purpose.

Participants including friends, colleagues, and top clients from across the industry came together in support of the Frank P. Scrivener Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits a future Civil Engineering student at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The energy on the range reflected not just the friendly competition but the shared commitment to carrying forward Frank's legacy and investing in the next generation of engineers.

The federal "Freedom to Drive" initiative is bringing new attention to the nation's most congested corridors, with a focus on reducing traffic bottlenecks and improving mobility across the region.

For Maryland, this initiative is especially relevant. The Washington–Baltimore corridor ranks among the nation's most congested, with major pressure points like the American Legion Bridge and ongoing impacts from the Key Bridge collapse straining travel times and freight movement.

The federal push aims to streamline projects, cut delays, and improve safety – offering a potential boost for infrastructure investment and long-term traffic relief across the state.

Most people never think twice about the road beneath their tires, but maybe they should.

Asphalt is one of the most sustainable, time-tested materials on the planet. And Maryland's roads? They're a perfect example of how smart engineering and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Maryland's roads are built to last, but only with the right funding behind them. Take 2 minutes to contact your legislator at mdelect.net.

Maryland has updated their heat advisory management. Here's what you need to know.

👷 Acclimatization:
Employees who are newly exposed to heat or are returning from 7 or more days of absence are to be provided with an acclimatization period of up to 14 days. During the acclimatization period, employees are to be closely monitored through regular observation and/or communication.

🌳 Shade:
Shaded areas are to be provided for employee rest periods. If a shaded area is demonstrably infeasible or unsafe, alternative cooling and control methods must be implemented.

💧Drinking Water:
Suitably cool drinking water must be provided to employees at no cost and located as close to the work area as practicable. Each employee should have at least 32 ounces of water per hour available to them.

☀️ High Heat Procedures:
When the heat index reaches or exceeds 90°F, high heat procedures shall be implemented. This includes employee rest periods or alternative cooling and control measures, and mandatory employee monitoring.

Learn more from MOSH on how to stay healthy in the heat: https://www.labor.maryland.gov/labor/mosh/moshheatstress.shtml
