#5 - EMERGENCY KIT

Emergency kit is one of those truck driver essentials you must have to keep safe.
A good emergency kit should include batteries, a flashlight, tin snips, bottled water, duct tape, jumper cables, tarp, canned food, extra gloves, socks, and a hat, a window de-icer, a wrench, a knife, fuses, and pliers.
Other things truckers need are road cones and flares, which should be added to your emergency kit. Both are important if you run into trouble or see another truck driver who needs your help. Road cones warn other drivers to keep their distance, while flares are highly useful in more remote areas or at night.

The nature of the job is not forgiving, because being behind the wheel means living a sedentary lifestyle. Diets for truck drivers can suffer.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast increases the blood sugar which boosts the energy to start the day. This is important for truck drivers taking long trips.
Healthy breakfast consists of: whole grains, lean protein, low fat dairy and fruit and vegetables.

2 DIESEL MECHANICS WANTED

We are searching for 2 independent and very knowledgeable Diesel Mechanics for a Mon-Fri (optional Saturdays) positions. Normal business hours 8-5 and depending on amount of work Saturdays will be TBD. Our shop consists of 3 bays. Must be highly skilled in Volvo, Kenworth, and Freightliner trucks.

Job duties include but not limited to:

-Inspection/inventory and repair of semi-trucks/trailers
-Inspect/repair of material handling equipment
-Inspection/repair of general purpose company vehicles
-Assist in the set up of new equipment
-Perform basic maintenance on Company Fleet trucks & trailers
-Tire changes
-Electrical repairs
-Oil changes
-Welding
-Brake replacement
-Shop Maintenance-Cleaning

KEY JOB Requirements

-Technical training in accredited program (preferred)
-Capable of proactively seeking out needed repairs
-Speak and read English (bilingual appreciated as well)
-Must be self-motivated and able to work without supervision

HOW TRUCK DRIVERS CAN EAT HEALTHY ON THE ROAD - PART #1

Maintaining your health and fitness as a truck driver is crucial to your long-term success in the profession.
What truck drivers eat on the road and what they put in their bodies is just as important as the fuel they put in their truck.

Here are some quick tips for staying healthy on the road:

- Using water as your primary source of hydration will help prevent fatigue, unwanted weight gain, and kidney stones.

- Monitor your sugar intake. Snacks and beverages high in sugar will make you feel fatigued more often and can lead to type II diabetes which may disqualify you from passing a DOT physical.

- Monitor your sodium intake. A diet high in sodium has been shown to cause heart disease and other complications that may compromise your ability to pass a DOT physical.

#2 - GLOVES

Even if your transport takes you only through the Sun Belt states, gloves are a must, especially good work gloves. For one thing, it can get cold in the south. For another, gloves protect your hands from injuries.
You’ll be going through a lot of work gloves, but a good pair to start on are leather cowboy gloves. Many truck drivers agree that these are the most comfy and durable, and tend to be less constricting than racing gloves.

It may not look like a traditional truck stop, but Whiskey Pete’s offers a place for truckers to rest and recharge near the state line of California and Nevada. Named after bootlegger Pete MacIntyre, Whiskey Pete’s brings a Western casino atmosphere to a travel center. It’s the last place to fuel up before heading into Las Vegas. On top of the truck stop, there are a plethora of casinos, hotels, outlet stores and even a roller coaster next to a 24-hour restaurant, business center and gas station.
