🎶🎉 In honor of Black Music Month, we celebrate the incredible journey of Galveston native Frederick Tillis! From his early days being inspired by his mother’s piano melodies to joining the drum and bugle corps at George Washington Carver Elementary, Tillis' passion for music blossomed. By the age of 12, he was already earning the nickname "Baby Tillis" as a professional jazz musician!

Dr. Tillis went on to earn his PhD and held esteemed academic positions at several colleges before joining the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he ignited countless minds with his love for music. Even in retirement, he continued to inspire as a composer, poet, and advocate for the arts.

Join us in honoring his legacy this month! 🎺✨
