Led by Alex Schlegel, great-grandson of the founder Emile Alexander Hartge, he and his staff are proud to provide recreational boaters, commercial fishermen and the yachting community workmanship they can trust. In addition to following environmental best practices, we are also deeply routed with traditions of family and community. If you're new to the area, we invite you to get to know us - stop

on by and visit the yard; its a fine view from our shore! Alex and his wife Donna have owned the operation for over 40 years and HYY employs more than 25 people. Although HYY land lease was not renewed in March 2009, Alex has remained committed to his loyal employees and customers & moved his operation to the former Woodfield Oyster and Packing campus. While the move has taken more time than anticipated, we remain steadfast to rebuild & revitalize.

Thanks you PropTalk Magazine for the lovely article about one of Cap’n Dick Hartge’s most iconic builds!

Dear valued customers and friends,

After over 45 years working in the industry, it is with wistful duty to announce the retirement of one of our most valued and respected employees and friend, our service manager, Luke Frey.
Luke began working at Hartge Yacht Yard in 1978 on Nick Schlegel’s haul and launch crew. Luke proved himself to be an energetic and diligent worker. After a few years on the pad, Luke began working for Hartge Yacht Sales with Dick Zimmerman, followed by a short stint in the construction business. Luke soon returned to work at Hartge’s and was promptly promoted to service manager.
With his vast boat knowledge, dedication, hard work, and a valued sense of humor, Luke has kept great rapport with both customers and employees alike, exemplifying the quality and skills necessary to be one of the marine industries’ best. Luke’s exceptional tenure here at Hartge Yacht Yard cannot be understated and has been a key figure in keeping the yard running smoothly for decades. On behalf of myself and all the employees at Hartge Yacht Yard, please join us in wishing Luke a well-deserved retirement.

We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Xan Schlegel as the new service manager here at Hartge Yacht Yard. Xan has been involved in the boating industry his whole life. As a knowledgeable mechanic, an avid sailor and operator of all sized vessels, and relief service manager for Luke when absent, Xan is looking forward to transitioning to full time service manager.

Anyone who would like to stop by and wish Luke well on his next chapter of retirement is invited to come by the Yard or use the button below to email him directly. His last day will be July 31, 2024.
