Save the Scottish Wildcat… and Cask Ale!

Silver at the Champion Beer of Britain 2026 went to a beer called Wildcat. That name isn’t an accident.

There are less than 400 Scottish Wildcats left in the wild. Cask is fighting a similar battle.

Both were once common across Britain, pushed to the fringes by forces largely outside their control. Both are now being kept alive by a small, passionate community who refuse to let them disappear.

In Aviemore, Cairngorm Brewery decided that story wasn't good enough for either of them. They named one of their beers after the wildcat. Donating to the Highland Tiger Project with every bottle sold, working to bring the Scottish Wildcat back from the brink.

That beer won 🥈 Silver at CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain 2026 at Cambridge Beer Festival.

Wildcat. 5.1%. Gold in the Premium Bitter category too. Two years in a row.

One beer. Two species worth saving. Every pint a small act of defiance.

Today the Gaelic Ale Trail Epic Beer Trip to Ireland took the Beer Trippers to legendary White Hag Irish Brewing Company in County Sligo 🇮🇪🍺

White Hag co-owner Brian McTernan personally showed the Beer Trippers the brewhouse and the impressive new taproom while sharing the story behind one of Ireland’s most respected independent breweries.

The group also enjoyed a lineup of White Hag beers, including the incredible Black Boar Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Orange Bitters… rich, smooth, complex, and absolutely unforgettable.

The Gaelic Ale Trail Epic Beer Trip to Ireland is officially underway! 🇮🇪🍻

After kicking things off in Galway, Russ Lynch — the Epic Ambassador to Ireland — and his trusty “Russ Bus” are leading the Beer Trippers on an unforgettable adventure across Ireland. One highlight so far: a special beer tasting experience at Mescan Brewery in County Mayo.

Along the way, the Beer Trippers have also discovered the beauty of Irish whiskey, breathtaking scenery like the Cliffs of Moher, and the magic of Inishmore on the Aran Islands.
