When cortisol stays high due to chronic stress, overworking, caregiving, and emotional load, the body can feel constantly “on.”

Add menopause into that mix, and things can feel even more intense:

Sleep changes during menopause are about more than just feeling tired. Hormonal shifts can affect how deeply you sleep, how often you wake up, and how rested you feel in the morning.

Night sweats.
Racing thoughts.
Stress hormones.
Emotional overload.

All of these can make rest feel harder than it used to.

Menopause can affect more than your body, it can affect your mental health too.

Mood swings, exhaustion, low motivation, irritability, sleep changes, and feeling emotionally overwhelmed can sometimes look similar to depression.

But there’s a difference between having hard days and feeling persistently low, hopeless, or disconnected from things you once enjoyed.

You do not have to ignore what you’re feeling or push through it alone. Support matters. 🤍

Nobody prepared many Black women for this part of menopause.

Not the cultural silence.

Not the pressure to keep caring for everyone else.
Not the exhaustion from carrying stress for years.
Not the hormonal shifts layered on top of an already heavy load.

Menopause doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens while managing families, careers, caregiving, relationships, and expectations.

And when self-care has always come last, these changes can feel even heavier.

This conversation deserves more space. More honesty. More support. 🤍

Brain fog isn’t always forgetfulness.
Sometimes it’s stress.
Sometimes it’s hormonal changes.
Sometimes it’s emotional overload from carrying too much for too long.

If you’ve been forgetting things, struggling to focus, feeling mentally cluttered, or emotionally exhausted — your mind may not be failing you. It may be overwhelmed.

And maybe the hardest part? Nobody talks about this side of it enough.
