SUMMARY OF PLANNED OPERATION:
Where: This flight is planned for the Orange County area and will cover portions of the Cities of BUENA PARK, CYPRESS, LA PALMA, ANAHEIM, LONG BEACH, FULLERTON, HAWAIIAN GARDENS, LAKEWOOD (small portion), and LONG BEACH (small portion).
When: Week of July 11, 2022. Specific days may vary due to weather and aircraft maintenance.
Why: Aerial Methane Mapping in support of SB 1371 compliance measures.
Also: Flights will be conducted in full compliance with FAA regulations, State and Local ordinances, and GS 100.0156 “Requirements for using Manned Aircraft In Support Of Gas Operations”
What to expect: The helicopter, a Bell Jet Ranger, will be going back and forth in a “lawnmower” pattern at about 500 ft. Hovering or circling over any one point is not necessary for this operation but could occur briefly for avoidance of traffic or if instructed to do so by Air Traffic Control (ATC).
There is no threat to the community. On the contrary, detection of methane emissions is another method for helping to keep the communities we serve safe. This is part of our SB 1371 Natural Gas emissions reduction program.
These flights are a portion a larger program to map any emissions over the many cities and unincorporated areas served by SoCalGas.
