At some point, society collectively agreed that spending Saturday staring at a washing machine while wondering where your youth went was acceptable.

We disagree.

Instead, we recommend climbing aboard a sixty-year-old London bus and disappearing into Frederick County for a few hours.

You may encounter wineries, history, book or pastries. You may encounter a squirrel carrying a clipboard who insists you’ve been upgraded to Premium Passenger despite there being no such program. Nobody knows who gave him the clipboard, nobody has challenged him.

Maryland Double Deckers offers experiences throughout the year ranging from wine and history to books, pastries, seasonal events, and adventures that begin with the phrase, “Well, this seems sensible.”

It rarely is. Which is precisely the point.

Today we had the pleasure of hosting the Frederick County Building Industry Association aboard the bus for a tour of projects around Frederick.

It was a wonderful afternoon spent with the people who help shape our community, build our neighborhoods, and somehow get genuinely excited about drainage.

There was plenty of discussion, plenty of ideas, and a surprising amount of enthusiasm directed toward things most of us would drive past without a second glance.

At one point, a group gathered around a set of plans and began discussing grades, easements, utilities, and stormwater management. To everyone else on the bus, it looked remarkably similar to a group of friends discussing who said what at brunch. Different subject, exactly the same energy.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. It was a pleasure spending the afternoon with people who care so much about Frederick and its future.

While exploring the Artopia, we had the pleasure of meeting Jessie from JMBunk Art, who could be found calmly producing beautiful artwork while the rest of us stood nearby saying things like, “I couldn’t even draw that with a ruler and three attempts.”.

Along with creating beautiful work, Jessie is someone who clearly puts a great deal of time and energy into the Frederick community, and that always deserves recognition.

We love meeting people who make Frederick such a vibrant place, and Jessie was an absolute gem. It was a pleasure seeing her work, learning a little about what she does, and sharing in a day that celebrated local art and community.

Thank you to Jessie, the many artists who participated, and everyone who came out to support them. Frederick is a special place because of people like you. That’s what we love most about events like ARTOPIA. You arrive expecting to see art and leave having met remarkable people.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the background, a squirrel spent twenty minutes staring at a painting, nodding thoughtfully, and then declared it “emotionally courageous” before stealing half a pretzel and disappearing behind a flower pot.

A successful day all around.

Somewhere between “I’m just getting out of the house for a few hours” and “well, this has become an adventure,” a vintage London double-decker bus gets involved.

One minute you’re minding your own business. The next you’re sipping wine, discovering hidden corners of Frederick, admiring beautiful architecture, or returning home with books, pastries, and absolutely no explanation for any of it.

ARTOPIA is returning, bringing a day filled with live art, street chalk creations, galleries, demonstrations, music, and creativity around every corner.

To help visitors explore the festivities, Maryland Double Deckers will be operating a special ARTOPIA shuttle aboard our vintage London double-decker bus.

It’s a fun and unique way to experience the event while taking in the sights of Frederick from a completely different perspective.

A squirrel from our dept of advance situational nonsense has reportedly volunteered as an art critic, though its qualifications remain under review.

A bulletin from the Department of Sensible Sunday Activities… The forecast is looking lovely, the books are waiting and the pastries have made no effort whatsoever to be less tempting.

This Sunday, climb aboard our vintage London double decker for Pages & Pastries, with stops at Curious Iguana Bookstore and Twin Bears Bakery.

It’s two hours of browsing shelves, selecting treats, enjoying Frederick, and briefly convincing yourself that buying another book is an investment in personal growth. Which, to be fair, it probably is.

Last year’s tours became unexpectedly popular. This Sunday’s still has seats, for now.

Books. Pastries. A giant yellow British bus. That seems like a fairly strong argument.

$15 gets you a seat on the top deck of our vintage London double-decker bus during ARTOPIA.

While Downtown Frederick comes alive with chalk artists, painters, and creativity around every corner, you can climb aboard for a 30-minute guided tour exploring some of the public art, murals, and creative landmarks that help make Frederick unique.

As part of ARTOPIA, Downtown Frederick Partnership has partnered with Maryland Double Deckers to offer five departures throughout the day from the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on East Patrick Street.

Tour times are 12:00pm, 12:40pm, 1:15pm, 1:50pm, and 2:25pm.

Top deck tickets are $15. Lower deck tickets are $10.

It’s a fun way to experience the festival, see more of the city, and enjoy Frederick from a completely different perspective.

The campaign wasn’t on the street. It was the street.

We’ve seen firsthand what happens when a campaign leaves the screen and enters the real world. For agencies, production teams, and brands executing large-scale campaigns, sometimes the most effective media placement is the one people photograph, share, and talk about before they’ve even read the message.

The street is crowded with things people are supposed to notice. The challenge isn’t being seen. It’s being remembered.
