A nonprofit organization Poly Wes Gardens has partnered up with Trolley Pride to use a trolley bus to sell healthy fruits and vegetables in the Southeast Ft Worth area where obesity rates are over 70%. With only 2 grocery stores located within in its 35 square mile area, Southeast Ft Worth is a “food desert” by federal definition; lacking stores with healthy foods while having a high percentage of

low-income residents. The trolley called Rootz Kitchen Farm Bus will be able to conveniently provide access to nutritious foods to these residents who may not have transportation to obtain these foods at reasonable prices.

“The idea is to expose them to fresh fruits and vegetables that they’re not accustomed to,” says Rootz Farm Kitchen Founder, Kimberly McLean. “By doing cooking demonstrations, samplings, and taste testings they may be open to trying new fruits and vegetables.
