And just like that, it was John’s last day at Citilink. 💙

We’ve spent this week looking back at five years of growth, change, partnerships and progress.

Today, we just want to say thank you.

Thank you, John, for your leadership, your friendship, your belief in Citilink, and, most of all, for genuinely caring about the people you’ve worked alongside and the community we serve.

We’re better because you were here.

We’ll miss you, John, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Today, it’s about our people. 💙

Citilink is fully staffed with drivers, employee satisfaction is at an all-time high, and we’ve continued investing in the people who keep our community moving every day.

Numbers only tell part of the story, though.

If you’ve worked with John, you know he genuinely cares about the people around him and he’s made sure our employees know how important they are to Citilink’s success.

That’s a pretty great leadership legacy to leave behind.

Under John’s leadership, Citilink has become more than a transportation provider, we’ve become a stronger community partner.

From our Rosa Parks and Breast Cancer Awareness buses to partnerships across healthcare, education, accessibility and more, John has helped make sure Citilink shows up for our community because transportation is ultimately about access, opportunity and connection.

Continuing our celebration of John Metzinger’s five years at Citilink…a LOT has changed.

- Mobile ticketing and new fare technology
- Tap to Pay and fare capping
- Better real-time bus information and trip planning
- Travel Training and expanded accessibility
- Improved and redesigned service
- Nearly $11 million secured for new electric-hybrid buses

Some of these changes riders see every day. Others are happening behind the scenes or will benefit our community for years to come.

Under John’s leadership, Citilink didn’t just recover but we modernized.

When John Metzinger joined Citilink in April 2021, it was…a time.

Like transit systems everywhere, we were still navigating the impact of the pandemic with workforce shortages, reduced service and lost ridership.

Five years later, our workforce and service have been rebuilt, and ridership has recovered to approximately 97% of pre-pandemic levels!

John didn’t just help Citilink recover. He helped move us forward. 💙

With that being said, we’re officially kicking off a week of celebrating John, his five years with us and a whole lot of change along the way!

Pam Schieber, our Chief Operations Officer, and Melissa Shaw, our Chief Impact Officer, are in Washington D.C. today for the American Public Transportation Association Fly-In, urging Congress to restore public transit investment.
