During today's Port Everglades Association's annual Economic Engine Performance Report business briefing at the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center, 's CEO/Aviation Director, Mark Gale discussed how other airlines are adding new service to help offset the loss of Spirit's operations, how the Aviation Department is working to prepare the vacant Spirit space for reallocation to interested airlines as soon as it's feasible, and also shared updates on current construction projects such as the Terminal Connectors and Terminal 5. The conference concluded with significant engagement among aviation industry executives, airport authorities, and tourism officials. Other participating subject matter experts at the event included COO/Deputy Director Michael Nonnemacher, who discussed advanced air mobility trends; Capital Project Mgmt. Administrator William Castillo, who spoke about the impact of political uncertainty on airport operations and tourism markets, and Emergency Mgmt. Specialist Sr. Tatiana Riesgo contributed to a panel on disaster recovery and destination resilience, highlighting the impacts of natural disasters on airports, air service, and tourism. To close out the conference, some attendees toured FLL sites today, including the airfield, the Airport Operations Control Center, and the Emergency Operations Center.
