50A isoboost had a blown circuit board due to a power surge from a recent storm, this completely disabled the unit thus not allowing shorepower to get to the main distribution panel…. Soo we gutted it and built a manual boost box and got her back online - it only almost cost me a finger!

In Quepos, Costa Rica tracking down a ground fault issue on a 63’ American. Boat trips the dockside RCD at the marina when plugging in to shorepower. No RCD’s at this marina so I was able to plug in and clamp the cord and do some troubleshooting. Found the 120v washing machine was tapped into the 240v dryer circuit and the green grounding circuit was being used as the current carrying return circuit (neutral). Disconnected for now and the Capt will run a new dedicated 120v circuit from the panel. Fishing tomorrow!

Customer just took ownership of a Tiara and had no shorepower when using a 30a/125v adapter on his 50a/240 plug. Vessel is equipped with a Charles isolation transformer. Since the transformer creates the neutral on the secondary side of the unit, all he was providing was a single 120v line. We added a rotary switch with the ability to add neutral and break the second 120v line in 1 position and add the the 110v line and break the neutral in position 2. This transformer will create 240v on the secondary side with a 120v input.

This yacht was built with 12v engines and a 24v house systems with no way to charge house batteries underway but to run the generator. Fitting auxiliary alternators was our first consideration, but would’ve required custom metal fab, additional pulleys for belt load etc… So the work around was 2 Victron DC/DC 12/24-15 chargers wired in parallel to provide 30amps of charging from the engine battery. Adding a Victron Cyrix battery combiner between engine battery banks gave the system charging redundancy via both engine battery banks.

What a pain in the ass! Swapped out 6 batteries through a small hatch….Thanks for rigging this 42 express like s**t!
