Eighty-five miles off Naples, in open Gulf water. That's where the Coast Guard found a stolen 36-foot center console, still running southwest with a suspect aboard. It started at 10:20 on a May night, on a berth in Naples. The geofence broke the moment the boat moved. Whoever took it ran slow at first, south to Sanibel, then north off Gasparilla Island. Careful. Unhurried. Five hours later they opened it up and turned for Mexico. They never got there.

Position, speed and heading went to the Coast Guard every two minutes for the entire chase. The boat came home with superficial damage. A detective on the case put it plainly: without the tracker, it would have ended up as just another statistic.

Forty-nine minutes. That's how long a stolen 34-foot center console stayed gone in Miami Beach before it was back. Boats like this get taken because they're fast, they carry fuel, and they cross open water without anyone asking questions. High-end center consoles are being pulled off docks and put to work running people and product. It isn't about resale anymore. This one was armed.

The boat moved, the geofence broke, and the alert reached the owner before the thieves were clear of the area. He called it in. The Coast Guard already had assets nearby. They found it at a bridge abutment where the thieves left it. Fastest recovery on record. The one it beat had stood for nine years.

Nobody stole this one. A 35-foot center console was under tow behind a larger yacht, coming home from the Bahamas, about 25 miles east of Miami. Heavy seas. The towline parted, the boat went adrift, and it was too rough for the crew to safely reattach it. That's the part nobody plans for. The boat doesn't have to be stolen to be gone. Satellite position reports came in automatically every five minutes. The boat settled into a two-knot northerly drift, and a towing crew ran it down on live tracks, finding it exactly where it was broadcast, 23 nautical miles east of Fort Lauderdale. Intact, undamaged, under eight hours from the moment the line let go. The tow operator put it plainly: it was rough out there, and without those updates they would not have found it.
