We’ve been spending some time at Marina, and I’d like to share a bit of our experience.

The yard itself is clean, organized, and well-maintained. This is worth mentioning for us because when you’re doing detailed finish work, such as touch-up repairs, as well as Paint Protection Film installs and Ceramic Coating, dust and dirt in the air make a big difference (even inside the vessel). A tidy yard makes our job much easier and helps us get a better result for the yacht and crew.

Actually, while grabbing this photo from their website, I noticed that Seahaven SuperYacht Marina “is officially accredited through the Clean and Resilient Marina Program”, and even has a Certified Clean and Resilient Marina Professional (CRMP) on staff.

That definitely explains why it feels so well-run and noticeably clean.

And of course… We just love being greeted by the dock master and yard crew, who make the place even better and help us start the day off on a positive note with a lovely greeting as we arrive.

Thank you, Marina. Hopefully, see you soon!

P.S. Have you been to Seahaven SuperYacht Marina in Dania Beach recently? I also saw that they have a fitness centre and private club areas for captains and crew.

We had a client who wanted us to install Paint Protection Film on a few surfaces because the owners wore a lot of sunblock.

It might sound silly, but every time they touched the walls, it would leave behind shiny spots.

The interior team had tried everything:
✓ Cleaning alcohol
✓ Mild soapy water
✓ Vinegar water

But these shiny marks didn’t budge. When I came on board, the Chief Stew asked how to get it off, and I told her… You don’t!

It had to be sanded and sheened.

We actually get called in quite a bit for things like this:
✗ Dull spots
✗ Shiny spots
✗ Weird residue
✗ Marks that look like they just haven’t been cleaned properly.

Stews are trained not to use any abrasive chemicals, and certainly not sandpaper. So, when you’ve tried everything, including Goo-Gone and Wax Away, and nothing seems to work, it’s time to call us in.

We can also solve the problem going forward by installing Paint Protection Film on those high-touch areas.

It protects the surface and saves the crew a lot of time (and frustration) down the line.

This past weekend was World Boating Day, which feels like a good moment to pause and appreciate just how much of our life revolves around the water.

For us, it’s everything.
We work on yachts.
We live on a sailboat.
And spend our time off sailing, diving, spearfishing, and swimming.

Earlier this month, we went back to where it all started for me… Hobie sailing in Syracuse.

Chris had always been around boats growing up, but I hadn’t. It wasn’t really part of my world until I met him. That’s when we got into sailing, and it kind of just grew from there into this life we have now.

We were back for a regatta called Madcatter 50, where we sailed 16-foot Hobie Cats. It’s the largest and longest-running Hobie Catamaran regatta in North America.
This year, there were over 110 boats, and we were sailing with people who’ve been doing this for decades. Some of them have literally sailed all over the world. It’s a lot of fun (and slightly humbling, lol).

You can’t deny what a great community boating and the water can bring together, and I am so grateful for it.

I’d love to know, where are you this World Boating Day, and how are you enjoying the water? If you have a pic to share, even better! Here are a few pics from the Madcatter 50 Regatta 😀 We sailed in B Fleet and came in 2nd place amongst 19 other amazing sailors.

Working in the yachting industry means we are constantly balancing tight deadlines, changing schedules, and high client expectations.

It’s demanding, but I’ve found that staying organized and planning ahead keeps our productivity high and prevents burnout for myself and our team.

I’m a stickler for scheduling, but I will always make room for a little ebb and flow because of the nature of our industry.

At Weingarth Customs, everyone knows their schedule well in advance.
When the team knows what’s ahead, they can flag any personal needs, like taking a couple of days off or scheduling an appointment, without stress. And I think they appreciate that.

In the yachting industry, last-minute changes are part of the job. But scheduling as much as we can in advance helps us maintain a steady workflow and allows everyone to perform their best without feeling overwhelmed or burnt out.

What do you do to balance productivity and well-being in a fast-paced industry?

Personal recommendations really are everything, especially in the yachting industry.

So it always means a lot when we hear that a past client or fellow contractor has passed our name along.

Working with a chief stewardess like Minh was such a pleasure. We loved being on board, and we’re grateful for the trust she placed in us, especially when it comes to delicate surfaces and detailed repairs.

One of the golden rules of touch-up work is always to start lighter than you think.

When we’re color-matching wood, we’ll almost always err on the side of light. Paint can dry darker, and it’s much easier to slowly build color than to try to lighten something that’s already gone too dark.

That’s where my little “white tape trick” comes in.

We will place a piece of white tape right next to the repair area and test the color on that first. It gives a clean reference point and lets me see how close the match really is before painting the actual surface.

It also helps avoid overworking the repair, especially since some of the products we use are solvent-based and can undo previous layers. I did exactly that on this wooden bench in the yacht’s gym.

Starting light, testing carefully, and slowly building up the color is what makes repairs like this blend in nicely.

Any ideas how this damage could’ve happened? I’m asking because I honestly don’t know…. It’s in such an interesting spot.

You know what’s better than a high-gloss repair?

Not needing one in the first place.

So much time can be lost refinishing high-gloss finishes.

After watching one of our videos, a fellow industry professional said that applying PPF to protect a yacht's surface during production will save so much time, and the same would go for furniture shipping groups, too.

And he’s right. We always recommend applying PPF and Ceramic Coating early, before guests ever step on board.

These finishes are stunning, but they’re also delicate. Even with care, working around them during manufacturing or early use often leads to dings, smudges, or scratches that need to be repaired before delivery.

PPF and Ceramic Coating doesn’t change the look of the surface, but it adds an invisible layer of defense and helps avoid the stress of last-minute touch-ups before delivery.

If you’re involved in yacht production or want to protect your investment before wear and tear starts, early PPF and Ceramic Coating installations are worth thinking about.

P.S. Do you think PPF and Ceramic Coating should become standard on high-gloss surfaces?

Guest Cabins.....a place set aside for guest to sleep, dress, and relax.

Maintaining any blemish in these specific areas isn't just about aesthetics; it’s about the physical comfort of the guests. The vessel wants to ensure that all spaces onboard are kept in pristine condition for their guests.

This lower guest cabin door needed a touchup repair. Thanks to our team member Leah, the cabin is back to tip top shape.

What is my process for assessing damage on yachts?
⇢ I always start with a walk-through of the yacht’s interior.

Depending on the yacht’s size, it can take a couple of hours as I mark every single ding or nick with blue tape, number each and log them into my notebook.

Doing this helps me organize what needs to be done on each spot. I determine whether each repair needs:

1. To be filled with either epoxy tube or resin using the hot knife.
2. Coloring and sheening, which sometimes requires sanding beforehand.
3. To be sanded, sheened and buffed.
4. Or requiring us to do them all: fill, sand, color, and sheen/buff.

During my walk-through, I also log specific things like...
-type of sheen because high-gloss repair finishes require additional time for curing and buffing.
-cross grain scratches because they are visual break in the natural graining lines and can be tricky to camouflage.
-open grain blemishes as they will look different because we tend to fill in some of the grain with fillers and color replacement as we repair.
-if the area is a solid color and if we require color matching outside our touch up kit.

Logging each blemish ensures that we manage our clients’ expectations.

This also helps us recall what we used for the repairs if we are requested to do more work on board in the future.
