Happy International Day of Friendship.

This one feels personal.

I came into this lifestyle expecting the learning curve.
I didn't expect the people.

A retiree two sites over who walked over on my second night
and spent 45 minutes showing me things I wouldn't have known to ask about.
No reason. Just because he remembered being new.

A couple who passed us their campground membership discount without hesitation.
A solo traveler who flagged a mechanical issue she noticed while walking past.

Honestly…
In a career, most help comes with context.
A reason. A return. A relationship.

Out here it just comes.

For anyone worried about the social side of retirement
about what happens to connection when the career ends
this community is worth knowing about.

The road is less lonely than most people expect.

Have you had a moment where a stranger on the road

helped you more than they needed to?

Tell me about it.

StorageCafe Top RV Destinations Report

Not based on Instagram posts.
Not based on word of mouth.
Based on data.

StorageCafe ranked 71 US RV hotspots using:
Campground connectivity
Air quality
Crime rates
Amenity access
Retail access for supplies and maintenance

Top results: Gulf Shores AL. Lake Havasu City AZ. West Yellowstone MT.

For a first-year RVer planning a longer route
this kind of research changes destination selection from a feeling
to a decision with measurable variables.

Honestly…
Most beginners choose destinations the way most people pick restaurants.
They go where someone they know went.
Or where the photos look good.

A structured traveler asks different questions:
• Is there a reliable campground with good reviews, not just good photos?
• Is there a service center nearby if something goes wrong?
• Is there a backup destination if the primary site is full?
• Does the weather pattern match the travel dates?

Good destinations aren't found by feel.
They're found by research.

What's the best RV destination you've found through research

not through someone else's recommendation?

Drop it below.

Campground fees are at record highs in 2026.
More RVers are looking at boondocking.

Camping on public land. No hookups. No fees. Real freedom.

And honestly, it is freedom.
But it's also a systems challenge that most beginners underestimate.

Here's what boondocking actually requires:
• A power system capable of running everything without shore power for multiple days
• A water plan: how much you have, how long it lasts, where you refill
• A waste plan: gray and black tanks fill faster without unlimited water
• Knowledge of where boondocking is actually legal, not everywhere is
• A backup plan if weather, terrain, or capacity forces an early exit

The 2026 Airstream Trade Wind and Basecamp are now better equipped for it from the factory.
18.5kWh battery. 600W solar. Off-road tires on the Basecamp X.

But factory capability doesn't equal owner readiness.

Honestly…
The trailer can handle it.
The question is whether you've prepared to handle what the trailer can't.

Have you tried boondocking yet?

What was the one thing you weren't prepared for?

Happy Parents' Day.

My parents never owned an RV.
They never talked about Airstreams or campgrounds or tow ratings.

But everything I bring to this journey
I learned from watching them.

Patience.
Show up prepared.
If something breaks, figure it out don't panic.
Plan before you move.
Respect where you are.
Help the person next to you.

Honestly…
None of those came from a beginner's guide.
They came from people who moved through the world with quiet discipline.

Thirty years in aviation reinforced what they started.
This first year in an Airstream is where I'm testing all of it.

The best road lessons came long before the road.

What's one thing your parents taught you that shows up

in how you travel or how you approach any new challenge?

I'd genuinely like to know.

International Self Care Day is July 24.

And I've been thinking about what that actually means at this stage of life.

For a long time, self-care meant time off from the work.
A weekend away. A vacation.
A break from the pace.

But the pace always came back.

Honestly…
The most effective self-care I've found isn't a break from anything.
It's the removal of the conditions that required a break.

What RV life has given me when planned well
isn't an escape.
It's a different structure entirely.

One where:
• The morning isn't immediately urgent
• The schedule serves the person not the other way around
• Rest isn't something you earn after the work it's built into the day
• The environment itself creates calm instead of demanding energy

This isn't for everyone.
And it doesn't happen automatically.
It requires the same planning and structure that made the career work.

But when it works
you stop needing to recover from your own life.

What does self-care actually look like for you right now?

Has that definition changed as you've gotten older?

This one caught my attention.

The 2026 Airstream Trade Wind 27FB now comes with:
• 18.5kWh lithium battery substantial off-grid capacity
• 600W of solar enough to sustain most daily usage without shore power
• 5,000W inverter handles high-demand appliances comfortably
• Openable windows something the previous model couldn't do
• A fully equipped galley with premium appliances

That last one matters more than the spec sheet suggests.

In summer heat, ventilation changes everything.
A trailer that can breathe naturally uses the A/C less.
That saves power. That extends off-grid time.
That changes where you can park and for how long.

Honestly…
These aren't luxury upgrades.
They're functional changes that affect every day of ownership.

The question isn't whether the 2026 Trade Wind is better.
It clearly is.

The question is whether those upgrades match what you actually need
or whether you're paying for capability you'll rarely use.

Are you looking at the Trade Wind?

What matters most to you in an Airstream upgrade: power, comfort, or off-grid capability?

78,342 used RVs listed for sale as of late July 2026.
A new record. Up 16.4% from a year ago.

Pandemic-era buyers are exiting.
Dealers are discounting 2025 models heavily to clear lots before 2026 inventory arrives.

For a structured buyer, this is the best supply environment in years.

But here's what most buyers don't know:

Many 2021-2023 RVs were rushed through production.
Water damage.
Soft floors.
Electrical issues.
All documented. All harder to spot without knowing what to look for.

Honestly…
A buyer's market doesn't protect you from a bad unit.
Knowledge does.

What to inspect before buying any used RV right now:
• Check every seam and corner for soft spots press with your thumb
• Look for water stains on ceiling panels and around windows
• Test every electrical outlet, the water pump, and the slide mechanism
• Check the roof seals in person not just from photos
• Ask for full service history and any warranty documentation

More options don't replace more research.
They just give you more chances to make an informed choice.

Have you bought a used RV recently?

What's one inspection tip you'd pass on to a first-time buyer?

This just launched. And it changes the entry conversation.

Airstream released the World Traveler 17RB this month.

17 feet.
Towable by crossovers and light SUVs.
Starting at $64,400.
Designed for solo campers and couples.

That last part matters.
It's the first Airstream travel trailer that doesn't require a heavy-duty truck.

For a first-time buyer who already owns an SUV,
this changes the total year-one cost calculation significantly.

No new tow vehicle.
No hitch upgrade for a heavier rig.
A smaller footprint that's easier to maneuver.

Honestly…
A smaller entry point doesn't mean a smaller decision.

The same questions still apply:
• Does the layout fit how you'll actually live in it?
• Is your tow vehicle rated for the loaded weight, not just the base weight?
• Have you accounted for year-one costs beyond the purchase price?
• Have you done a shakedown trip before committing to a longer route?

The model got smaller.
The homework didn't.

Would a smaller, lighter Airstream change your decision to buy?

What's holding you back or moving you forward?

Moon Day (Apollo 11 Landing, 1969)

Today marks 57 years since Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

That mission is remembered for courage.
It succeeded because of process.

400,000 engineers.
Thousands of checklists.
Zero tolerance for assumption.

Honest question:
If a moon landing required a checklist
why do so many RV beginners skip the pre-drive one?

Here's what the departure checklist protects against:
• Antenna still up clipped on exit
• Stabilizer jacks still down: catastrophic damage at speed
• Shore power cord still connected, dragged and destroyed
• Tow vehicle hitch not locked: trailer separation on the road
• Slide not fully retracted: obstacle contact on a narrow lane

Honestly…
None of these are dramatic mistakes.
They're ordinary ones.
And they happen to people who felt confident they had it handled.

Different mission.
Same discipline.

Do you use a printed checklist or a mental one before every departure?

What's one item you'd add that most beginners miss?

New Friends Day.

I didn't expect the campground community to be one of the best parts of this.

But here's what keeps surprising me:

• The person at the next site walks over without being asked.
• They help you level.
• They explain the water hookup.
• They mention the road conditions you didn't know to ask about.

No agenda.
No professional utility.
Just genuine helpfulness.

In a career, most relationships come with context.
A role. A reason. A meeting.

On the road, they don't.

Honestly…
For anyone worried about what happens to your social life after retirement
the campground community is one of the most underrated answers to that question.

The road is far less lonely than most people expect.
The community finds you.
You just have to show up.

Have you made an unexpected connection at a campground?

What happened?
