When you pack your passport in your carry-on luggage, you’re seemingly tucking the document away where you can’t lose it. In reality, this can cause major headaches: it’s essential to keep your passport with you at all times. If you pack your passport in your carry-on and later need to gate-check your bag, you won’t be able to retrieve your passport before you reach immigration, which could result in being denied entry at your destination. Even if you’re traveling domestically, you should never pack your passport in your carry-on. Travelers frequently need to stow their carry-on luggage in an overhead bin far from their seat, and in this case, you won’t be able to keep an eye on your belongings. Sadly, in-flight theft happens, and your passport can easily be stolen mid-flight.

Just Opened: Magnificent Tombs of Modest Temple Gatekeepers

Two beautiful new 18th Dynasty tombs - 3500 years old - have just opened on the West bank at Luxor. Amenhotep Rebiu and his son Samut were not pharaohs or viziers. They served as Door Keepers of Amun at Karnak, trusted officials responsible for controlling access to Egypt's greatest temple during the reign of Thutmose III/Amenhotep II (1481 and 1389 BC). Yet their newly opened tombs contain some of the finest private tomb paintings of the 18th Dynasty.

Discovered at El-Khokha on Luxor's West Bank in 2015, the tombs have officially opened to visitors, after eleven years of excavation and conservation. These newly restored and accessible sites are just two of many fresh experiences awaiting new and returning travelers to Egypt.

It is hurricane season!

What you need to know about Hurricanes and Travel Insurance Coverage
In the Atlantic, Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the peak of activity typically happening in mid-September.
Does travel insurance cover hurricanes?

Yes. In the event of a covered hurricane or other certain unforeseen severe weather, travel insurance provides coverage under the Trip Cancellation and Interruption benefits (as long as you purchased your policy before the storm was named). If your trip is cancelled for a covered reason, you may be reimbursed for the pre-paid and non-refundable trip costs up to the limit of coverage, subject to the terms of the insurance policy.

Can I buy travel insurance after a hurricane is named?
To have coverage for that hurricane, travel insurance must be purchased 24 hours prior to when the hurricane has been named. Once a hurricane has been named, Trip Cancellation and Interruption losses resulting from that hurricane are excluded from the coverage of the policy.

United Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service Linking St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands to Newark/New York

ST CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands, June 1, 2026 – United Airlines has announced a new nonstop service between St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (STX) and Newark/New York (EWR), becoming the only airline to offer service to the New York City area from St. Croix. The new route will commence on October 31, 2026 and will operate on Saturdays on a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, featuring 126 seats including 12 in business class.

The new service provides travelers with convenient access to St. Croix’s distinctive blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage and local flavor, from its quiet beaches and scenic coastline to the historic streets of Frederiksted and Christiansted. On the night of June 1st, 1863, Harriet Tubman and the 2nd South Carolina Volunteers made history. They boarded three boats at the waterfront in Beaufort and returned to the same spot early the next morning with over 750 liberated men, women, and children. Over the last year Reconstruction Era National Historical Park worked with James Height, a Morehouse College Alumni and HBCU intern to create a self-guided audio tour about the Combahee River Raid. James interviewed several descendants of those liberated in the raid to learn about their family’s history. Today you can take the tour, “Landfall: Come by the Combee” in the NPS app to journey to places of liberation along the Combahee River.

United announces new nonstop routes to Tokyo-Narita and Sapporo

United is expanding their Japan service this winter with two new nonstop routes.

Chicago – Tokyo-Narita
Enjoy daily year-round service between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) starting October 24, 2026.

San Francisco – Sapporo
Fly three times a week between San Francisco (SFO) and Sapporo (CTS) from December 11, 2026, to March 2027.

With the two new routes, United will serve five airports in four Japanese cities from its hubs in the continental U.S. and Guam: Sapporo (CTS), Tokyo-Narita (NRT), Tokyo-Haneda (HND), Osaka (KIX) and Nagoya (NGO). With the new routes United will fly 13 flights each day from the continental U.S. to four of Japan's airports. The airline offers the most flights to Japan of any U.S. carrier.
