South Africa 2010 Mission Trip

We landed in Milwaukee at just before 11:00am, picked-up our luggage, and loaded the trailer at 11:30. We were on our way, but had a brief stop for gas. We arrived at the church at 12:50pm to a heartwarming welcome from our family and friends. It is good to be back!

Howdy all. We are back!! Thank you so much to Beth Rutherford who posted updates for us when we were unable to access a computer. We had an enjoyable trip back the the US which seemed to go much faster than the trip out to SA. Although we had 2 hours on the ground between each of our flights, our transit time went VERY quickly as we had to clear customs and find our way to different gates around the various airports.

Today we enjoyed a day off to view 16 different species of game at the Pilanesburg National Park (Please see the pictures). It was very relaxing to enjoy the splendor of our Lord's creation and variety. We were able to see three of the "big 5" animals in the park. PB was very disappointed not to see a leopard :-(

Well, we are busy packing and preparing for our final weekend in Johannesburg. We have a REALLY busy schedule, but are expecting a rewarding time at the 4 places we will be ministering at. We will not have internet access, so the next update will be Tuesday after we return to Fond du Lac.

When we were at the second township today we ministered in dance and presented a Gospel message with the assistance of an interpreter. The children loved the dances and asked us to do them again so they could join us. They wanted to learn REAL American dance steps :-) Please pray for us as we return to the township tomorrow and minister to the aid workers.

The area around the homes is very messy with trash EVERYWHERE!! There
are goats and pigs grazing between the houses too. We had 2 designated
photographers for the HIV home visit, so we will try to upload those
pictures when I can get my hands on the cameras.

We had the opportunity to visit 2 black townships yesterday and today, one of which is an "informal settlement", a.k.a squatter camp. We played with a number of children and visited with HIV patients. I was amazed to see how clean the tin shanty's were; the people take great pride in their little homes.
