We were honored to host students from the Allen Thornton Career Technology Center at the Florence-Lauderdale County Port on March 6, 2026.
Following a brief introduction, Port Director Gina Stowe Walker escorted the students onto a bus provided by the Alabama Council of Local Governments for a tour of the Port. During the visit, students were taken to each tenant location where Director Walker explained the role each company plays in the Port’s operations and regional economy.
A special thank you to Tennessee Southern Railroad and Woodall Grain for providing the students with a more in-depth look at their services and daily operations.
The students asked thoughtful questions throughout the tour, with some of the most common being: “Is it hard to get a job here?”, “How much does it pay?”, and “Are the positions full-time?” It was great to see such genuine interest in the opportunities available in the maritime and logistics industries.
We appreciate the opportunity to connect with these students and look forward to welcoming them back in the future!
