Flagstaff... These winds are crazy! Up to 60mph I think... Sounds like a freight train.
I went outside at 3am to move my car to the garage, and closed my carriage house door that was slamming in the wind. Came back in and the power tripped a few times for just a fraction of a second, so now I set my heat from 69 to 80, and added wood to the fireplace, juuuuuuust in case we have power outages due to the winds and icy conditions.
Even though my home is 100 years old this year, it's insulated extremely well. Replaced all 52 windows with Andersen 400 series windows in 2015-16, went overboard with insulation, radiators are now powered by a small electric tankless hot water heater, I rewired the home and replaced the main panel.
Just this last week I went around armed with a caulk gun and an infrared thermometer and found son many little spots where cold air was coming in and siliconed the little leaks and foamed the big ones. What a difference!
Good news is that the home holds heat very well and is pretty soundproof.
Should be good, but I'm thinking a Tesla power wall is one of the next things I'll be doing, along with a ductless mini split with floor cartridges on the first floor and ceiling cartridges on the 2nd... and solar... and rainwater harvesting for the gardens... and turning the garden home and carriage house into additional housing units to offset expenses... and a bathroom and kitchen remodel... and build out the basement for a sauna, wine and cheese cave... and an infinity room like at Phoenix Art Museum... Because why not, right? It's my mini version of Wi******er Mystery House lol.
Now, if I only knew an architect... 😉
