As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, we’re reminded that before July 4, 1776, another historic moment took place. On May 17, 1776, the Continental Congress declared a national day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer,” seeking God’s guidance and strength as our nation faced the challenges of war and uncertainty.
Nearly 250 years later, Americans from across the country will tune in for Rededicate 250 this weekend at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. as we reflect on our nation’s history, faith, and future. President Trump has called for a National Day of Rededication of America to God on May 17th, with events taking place in Washington, D.C. and in churches across the nation.
The White House Office of Faith Engagement has invited churches across America to participate. A livestream gathering will also be hosted by 1010 Bible Church in Van Buren, Ohio.
As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, we encourage everyone to take a moment this weekend to reflect on what freedom, faith, and legacy mean to you, and to consider how each of us can leave a positive mark on the next chapter of our nation’s history.
