What we now know as Falmouth Station began its life in 1872 as a railroad depot connecting Cape Cod to Boston—and serving travelers headed to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
In 1913, the original wooden station was replaced with the beautiful brick depot that still stands today. For decades, it buzzed with passengers, freight, and summer visitors until passenger rail service ended in the 1960s.
Fast-forward to 1989: the station found new life as a bus transportation hub, keeping Falmouth connected to the Cape and beyond. Today, it also anchors the beloved Shining Sea Bikeway, welcoming cyclists, pedestrians, commuters, and visitors alike.
After a thoughtful restoration completed in 2017, this historic space continues to serve the community—blending transportation, history, and local life under one iconic roof.
