• Impeccable Penmanship – with a Sharpie no less!!

Schoolteachers are typically the easiest customers we have because they are so damned organized! Thorough planning, great communication & very well prepared – a mover’s dream.

Props to my most recent schoolteacher customer (the author of that beautiful box label), my niece Missy Fulks, sister-in-law Beth Lamb, cousin-in-law Sue Copsey, and all the rest of these amazing people molding the minds of the youth throughout these crazy times. I was driving east on I-66 from Centreville the other day when I passed this individual. Yes, this was on I-66! I don’t know the driver of this vehicle or the circumstances of the job – he or she might be the actual owner of the furniture or a friend or family member. But it made me think of the millions of Americans who have been plummeted into unemployment because of COVID-19. As a result, many pickup truck owners have thrown ads up on Craigslist advertising moving services. I have no problem with folks who advertise Craigslist because that’s how I started (with my pickup truck). Believe me, as a former Craigslist pickup truck rookie, I made many mistakes. However, I did exercise basic common sense.

Once again, I encountered this random stranger while traveling to DC so I know nothing about this scenario but let’s take it as a lesson in how NOT to transport your mattress & boxspring!

This just happened in Fairfax County two days ago. Luckily, the driver of this vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and miraculously survived without injury.

When you rent a truck from Uhaul, you have the option of purchasing insurance (for an added fee) for the truck in the event of a mishap such as this. While the insurance policy for your personal vehicle may extend to rental cars, it may or may not extend to a rental truck.

Penny Gusner from carinsurance.com addresses this in a Q&A response (dated May 16, 2018), https://www.carinsurance.com/kb/personal-auto-insurance-for-rental-truck

• Likely you’ll find that you are without liability or collision coverage for the rented truck, which means that you’d be personally responsible for damages that you caused to others and any damage done to the truck or trailer.

• If you damage a moving truck, you ordinarily will be charged for any damage you caused, plus any lost rental revenue while the vehicle is being repaired. U-Haul notes that it wants to be reimbursed for damages immediately upon the return of the rented item. For this reason, it is wise to obtain some insurance coverage from the rental truck company offerings.

How much is Uhaul’s insurance? $14.00! I hope the driver of this vehicle splurged for the insurance!

Our pricing structure remains the same as it was prior to the onset of the pandemic:

1. Local Moves consist of an hourly rate with a flat fee for truck expenses which varies based upon the locations involved.

2. Long distance moves (moves totaling 2+ hours drive time) are priced out with one flat fee (no hourly rate).

We are diligently monitoring updates regarding COVID-19 and following all CDC recommendations to ensure the safety of our customers and our crew. Please stay safe.
