Our page has been pretty quiet lately, so here's a story. I am Erica, owner of Hey Rides Mountain Taxi and Shuttle. This business was born by accident in 2018 with one truck and more than a few wayward travelers.
I had survived my own version of The Shining with little more than the shirt on my back and the cutest little mouth to feed. And then I moved into a haunted hotel (we are the ghosts, we're just haunting this particular temporal dimension), where things started to fall into place.
The truck in question: Hail Mary, so named because she was available at a significant discount due to some trivial hail damage, but also, a metaphor for the course of actions that followed a heroic, last-ditch effort. Simply being available was critical, and that meant prioritizing work over sleep, food and all things personal.
As demand grew, I was fortunate to have a supportive partner that stepped in and allowed me to have some breathing room.
An amazing friend invested in us by helping with the purchase of our first bus. I will never forget this simple act of generosity that changed the course of our lives.
As we gained traction in providing group transportation, we were able to acquire additional vehicles and contract the most personable and skilled crew of drivers. As a control freak, it was difficult to hire dispatchers to do my job while I stepped away, but as of two months ago, I took the trust fall and was caught by some very capable friends.
So now we are a team of 10, including that little mouth that has gotten much bigger and has something to say every day.
And I am so genuinely grateful for all of the adventures, friends, celebrations, partnerships, hardships, inclement weather, bad roads, the time or two we have gotten a vehicle stuck and been rescued, being the rescuer, helping the elderly, driving our homeschool group, strange requests, countless almost head on collisions (shakes fist at 285), and so many blessedly safe miles, smiles, stories and deep conversations with strangers turned confidants.
Community is a sacred space of trust, cooperation and good will. Political and ideological divisions are superficial, no matter how inflammatory it feels at times. If you are reading this, thank you for being a part of our community.
I am grateful beyond what these words convey and so very happy to be of service.
