Not all LTL shipments are priced or handled the same.

For regional less than truckload freight, the cost depends on more than the distance
between pickup and delivery.

Each shipment has its own cost profile based on factors such as:
• Shipment weight and dimensions
• Freight class and density
• Pickup and delivery locations
• Lane characteristics
• Fuel and applicable accessorial charges
• Handling requirements
• Required service level
• Volume and consolidation opportunities

A shipment requiring a liftgate, limited access delivery, appointment or additional handling will have a different cost profile than freight moving between two commercial facilities with standard docks.

Packaging, accurate shipment details and advance planning can also influence how efficiently freight moves through an LTL network.

That is why LTL costs should be evaluated one shipment at a time.

This past Saturday, our drivers came together for our Annual Safety Workshop, Safety Saturday!

The morning kicked off with a delicious breakfast before everyone gathered for our Company Update Meeting. From there, our drivers split into groups and rotated through four different stations focused on reinforcing safe practices, sharing knowledge, and keeping safety top of mind.

Our drivers were engaged, asked terrific questions, and brought great energy throughout the day.

We also took time throughout the day to recognize and celebrate our drivers for their hard work and dedication to safety. Their commitment to safe driving is reflected in our high Netradyne fleet average scores!

Annual safety training is more than checking a box. It’s an opportunity to sharpen skills, learn from one another, and reinforce the practices that help keep our drivers and everyone sharing the road with them safe.

Sometimes the best logistics wins are the ones the client barely has to feel.

On Hardinger Trucking’s very first load with a new client, our driver arrived to pick up an oversized shipment, but realized that the dimensions were different than what was initially provided. That meant the permit in hand was no longer valid.

The load needed to be onsite for a labor-intensive installation that had been scheduled months in advance, so the client was understandably pretty stressed about what this mistake could mean.

Our driver, Brian, called dispatch right away. Bob got our permitting partner involved immediately, while Megan kept the client updated and reassured her that we were going to figure it out.
Within about 30 minutes, we had a corrected out-of-state oversize permit reissued, printed, and in Brian’s hands. He was back on the road with essentially no impact to the client.

A few minutes later, we got this message: “Thank you SO much for saving [my] backside today! I so very much appreciate you, Bob and Megan, for your diligence.”

Not a bad way to start a new client relationship. 😊

Huge shoutout to Bob, Brian, and our permitting partners. This is exactly why having good people and strong partnerships matters.

Brake Safety Week starts Sunday. But brake safety isn't a one-week activity.

From August 23–29, commercial vehicle inspectors across North America will participate in CVSA Brake Safety Week. This year's campaign will include added attention to the condition of brake drums and rotors.

For a trucking operation, the importance goes well beyond passing an inspection.

A vehicle placed out of service can quickly become a service interruption for the customer whose freight is on it.

That is why safety and reliability are closely connected.

Strong fleet practices happen long before an inspection:
- Consistent pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Preventive maintenance completed when it is due
- Drivers who report defects promptly
- Maintenance teams that address issues before equipment returns to service
- A culture where getting the equipment right comes before getting it on the road

Compliance establishes the minimum standard.

Preventive maintenance helps protect the driver, the freight, everyone sharing the road—and the service commitment made to the customer.
