As the days get shorter and the weather starts to get an attitude, I feel grateful for all the flying and late sunsets we enjoyed last summer.
We were able to take care of a lot of necessary things at the airport and are already changing focus to start working through the next round of projects.
The ultra noticeable & abbreviated highlights are:
The buildings and hangars are not falling down & we are an airport that has been refocused to be a place for people to operate their airplanes. Pilot shop is up and running, courtesy car is ready to roll, & coffee is always on.
The next projects revolve around answering a question: How we can be a “Community Airport”
There are big barriers to cross with this question, so I am starting small. The airport is not staffed with full time workers and it will be a while until we are, so for now, I work to be available to answer questions or relay information about local air traffic, airplane & aviation “stuff.”
I maintain a place that community organizations can reach out to for assistance. Need a spot to stage a helicopter to fight a fire in Greenwater or lift a lookout tower to the top of one of our local peaks, life flights and medical evacuations? We are here for that!
This coming Saturday the 18th, The Plateau Prostate Cancer Support Group is hosting a small gathering from 11 to 3 for lunch and fellowship in our community room. It’s for people and families impacted by cancer, contact Dave for event information (253) 377 0836
We host Washington Pilots Association & Puget Sound Antique Aircraft Club gatherings and this coming summer we will be taking a huge step forward and putting on outdoor “Movies in the Grass” style events open to EVERYONE! (13’ tall movie screen, license for public movie broadcasting, sound system, and a ton of green grass to set up chairs!!)
Also, I acquired a rental plane for a few local flight instructors to use starting early 2024, possibly expanding into an Enumclaw based flight service the first time in over 30 years.
Thanks for letting us be here. We will be getting our annual inspections done, feeding cats all the mice they can eat, and waiting for better weather.
