Monday at training we got to test out our hydrants water pressure now that a new water tower has been installed in our area. In order to see how quickly it will fill our trucks we had to of course empty the existing water.

Which is also necessary to do once in a while if there isn’t much use to clear out sediments in the tank.

Here is an awesome video of the power and distance of our tankers deck gun!

After emptying the tank we ran two 3in fill lines from the hydrant and it took 1 minute and 50 seconds to fill the 2 thousand gallon tanker when before it would take over 5 minutes. Every second counts when fighting a fire and the quicker we can get filled with more water and back to the scene is crucial.

This will also help improve our ISO rating!

Well said! Take a moment to review these safety tips to help ensure you have a fun and safe day celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence

As we celebrate Independence Day and America's 250th Birthday, the Level Plains Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate safely, responsibly, and with consideration for those around you.

Please remember:

Use fireworks only where they are permitted and always follow local laws and the manufacturer's safety instructions.
Never allow young children to handle fireworks, and always keep a safe distance from anyone lighting them.
Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of an emergency.
Be respectful of your neighbors by celebrating responsibly and avoiding the use of fireworks in areas where they are prohibited.
Never throw used fireworks directly into the trash. Allow them to cool completely, then soak them in a bucket of water for several hours (or overnight). Once they are fully soaked and cooled, place them in a trash bag before disposing of them.

A safe celebration is everyone's responsibility. By using fireworks responsibly and respecting those around you, we can all enjoy a memorable and safe Fourth of July.
