Who wants to go downriver tomorrow? No really, there are some seats open on tomorrow’s trip into the Birdsfoot Delta. We leave out of Cypress Cove Marina for 9:00 and should be back for 3:30ish. Leave a DM if you’re interested in joining. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, likely this evening. The boat gets more smiles per gallon when there are more people in the boat. 😃 🚤

These connections are sooo important to get through some of the social hurdles in the way of letting nature do what it does best. Lots of dialed in folks from around the world were on this trip. Big thanks to the Meraux Foundation and Blaise Pezold for working behind the scenes to make it happen.

It’s our ten year anniversary of incorporating with the state of Louisiana! We’re so grateful for all the help along the way, especially to our staff, vendors, and guests. We hope the next ten years brings us closer to our goal of sharing the delta with as many lifelong learners as we can. Much gratitude y’all! Come celebrate with us in November. Time and place will be forthcoming.

Neptune Pass, a new cut of the Mississippi River is building a good bit of land in Quarantine Bay. Some of these new islands, laid out in the pattern of a new delta, and big enough to land small airplanes on and firm enough to ride a bike.

Today’s trip was really nice. We picked up around 175 pounds of plastic trash at Scofield Beach that drifted in with the sargasso grass. There were lots of birds, a good share of alligators, and despite the widespread showers we stayed pretty dry.

has a wonderful exhibit from contemporary artist .floch who has captured the essence Mississippi River’s watershed. Traversing the watershed by car and the delta by boat, Nicolas’ images convey the American experience and help us peer into the depths which are often mysterious and inaccessible. I encourage folks to check it out at NOMA.

In pursuit of some of the images Nicolas and I covered 600 miles of waterways. We spent time in the Atchafalaya Basin and made many drops of his special underwater cameras starting in Empire, Louisiana going a number of miles offshore into the Gulf.

His art and way of looking at the world has had a big impact on me, especially around water color, light, and humanity’s role as a steward. His view of the underwater world, pragmatic approach to the equipment, and understanding of the deep geologic and human forces that shape the featured watery landscapes are in each image curated at NOMA. Check it out!

The work was supported by the French Consulate and .albertine a cultural exchange that supports artists and thinkers. Much thanks to all involved!
