Severe Weather Threat This Weekend
A severe weather threat is in place from the Mississippi and Ohio valleys across the Southeast starting this weekend for the final days of March.
According to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, damaging winds, very large hail and a few tornadoes are all potential threats.
Timing
A new storm system could fire up a few severe storms as soon as Saturday night in the Midwest, but the more widespread potential is expected Sunday and Monday.
-Sunday-Sunday Night: The threat area stretches across the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. That includes St. Louis; Little Rock, Arkansas; Louisville, Kentucky; and Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee.
Driving in severe weather conditions like damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes can be extremely dangerous.
Here are some safety tips to follow:
NEVER USE CRUISE CONTROL IN SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS!
THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF JACKKNIFING!
Slow down – High speeds make it harder to control your vehicle in gusty winds.
Be cautious on bridges and overpasses – Winds can be stronger in open areas.
Avoid stopping under overpasses – This can cause traffic hazards and congestion.
Find shelter – Look for a parking garage, gas station canopy, or any sturdy cover.
Your safety—and the safety of your truck and trailer—are more important than anything else.
No load, deadline, or delivery is worth risking your life.
If conditions become too dangerous, find a safe place to pull over and wait it out.
Call your dispatcher and update about the traveling conditions.
Stay alert, make smart decisions, and remember: it’s always better to arrive late than not at all.
Thank you for your hard work!

Fresh Severe Weather Threat To Impact Midwest and South For The Upcoming Weekend!
This weekend is bringing a severe weather threat to the Midwest and the South.
Timing
The threat of severe weather on Saturday night is focused from eastern Kansas into northern and central Missouri, including Kansas City.
It is currently not expected to be a significant or widespread event, but large hail is possible.
The potential for severe storms shifts southward on Sunday across an area that extends from eastern Texas to Tennessee, including much of the lower Mississippi Valley. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is warning of possible damaging winds and large hail, although a tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
The threat peaks from Sunday afternoon to early Monday as the cold front encounters warm, moist air surging northward from the Gulf.
DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL ON SNOW, SLEET, RAIN, AND FREEZING RAIN!
THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF JACKKNIFING!
Safety Tips:
Slow down – Ice and snow can reduce traction, increasing stopping distances.
Keep a safe distance – Allow more space between your vehicle and others on the road.
Check your tires – Properly inflated tires with good tread improve stability.
Clear all snow and ice – Ensure full visibility before driving.
Pack an emergency kit – Include blankets, a flashlight, water, snacks, and a phone charger.
Avoid sudden movements – Gradual acceleration and braking help maintain control.
Stay updated – Monitor weather reports and road conditions before heading out.
Thank you for your hard work!

Winter Storm Prompts Blizzard Warnings In Multiple States Across Plains And Upper Midwest
Blizzard warnings have been issued in the Plains and upper Midwest as a winter storm hauls snow and high winds across those regions, resulting in treacherous or impossible travel conditions.
Latest Storm Status
This morning, the storm is producing snowfall and strong winds in western Kansas, parts of Nebraska, and northwest Iowa, as seen in the latest radar snapshot below. Wind gusts have topped 50 mph in some of the areas where snow is falling.
Blizzard conditions prompted a closure of Interstate 70 this morning from just east of Denver to Wakeeney, Kansas.
Interstate 80 is also shut down because of the storm in central and eastern Nebraska, from Lincoln to Lexington.
Snowfall or rain changing to snow in combination with gusty winds could spread as far south and east as northern Missouri, northern Illinois, northern Indiana, and lower Michigan.
Safety Tips for Driving in Winter Weather:
DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL ON SNOW, SLEET, RAIN, AND FREEZING RAIN!
THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF JACKKNIFING!

Heavy Snow and Possible Blizzard Conditions in the Central Rockies and Upper Midwest
Valid Wed Mar 19 2025 - Fri Mar 21 2025
Timing the Storm
-Wednesday: Snow or rain changing to snow will impact areas from northern Kansas into eastern Nebraska, western and northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The combination of snow and strong wind gusts over 40 or 50 mph will create blizzard or near-blizzard conditions in some of these areas.
Travel should be avoided because of low visibility and the potential for snow to make roads slippery. That includes the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro (especially south metro); Sioux City, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; and Rochester, Minnesota.
Areas in the Midwest and South where rain is forecast might see a few severe storms with gusty winds or hail, but we don't expect anything near the severity of what these regions saw in the outbreak this past Friday and Saturday.
-Wednesday Night-Thursday: Snowfall or rain changing to snow in combination with gusty winds could spread as far south and east as northern Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and lower Michigan. But accumulations should be minimal.
DO NOT CRUISE CONTROL ON SNOW, SLEET, RAIN, AND FREEZING RAIN!
THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF JACKKNIFING!

Winter Storm To Sweep From Rockies To Plains, Upper Midwest With Snow And Strong Winds, Including Blizzard Conditions
A winter storm tracking through the West will emerge in the Plains and upper Midwest by Tuesday night into Wednesday.
A combination of snow and high winds will produce blizzard conditions in some areas, resulting in dangerous travel conditions.
Blizzard warnings are now in effect for parts of the Plains, including from northwest Kansas to central and eastern Nebraska, western Iowa, far southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota. That includes Omaha, Nebraska, and Sioux City, Iowa.
Winter storm watches stretch northeastward from there through southeast Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some of these areas could be upgraded to blizzard warnings or winter storm warnings later today.
Timing the Storm
-Tuesday: Much of the northern and central Rockies will be impacted by snowfall. Some snow could reach as far east as South Dakota during the day.
-Tuesday Night: Snow or rain changing to snow and increasing winds will advance across parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota. Blizzard conditions will develop in the Central Plains.

Northern Arizona highways to remain closed through Friday night
Interstate travelers east-west can use I-10 and I-8
Due to Thursday's winter weather and another storm in the forecast, Northern Arizona highways are expected to remain closed through Friday night.
The Arizona Department of Transportation and Arizona Department of Public Safety are focused on public safety and working together throughout these winter storms. Interstate motorists should use Interstate 8 and Interstate 10 to travel through Arizona.
The following highways are closed due to winter weather:
Interstate 40 eastbound near Kingman and in Ash Fork (mileposts 71 & 146)
Interstate 40 westbound between Williams and Holbrook (mileposts 158-289)
Interstate 17 northbound at State Route 179 (milepost 299)
State Route 89A in both directions between Sedona and I-17 (mileposts 375-394)
State Route 87 southbound near Winslow (milepost 338)
Drivers who choose to travel when snow is falling or expected to fall should be prepared to spend extended time on the road in winter conditions. Drivers should check with the National Weather Service for current weather conditions and forecasts and plan accordingly.
ADOT snowplows are working around the clock. Motorists should avoid tailgating snowplows – leave four car-lengths between the snowplow and your vehicle – and do not pass a snowplow. Let the snowplow clear the roadway of snow and ice, allowing for safer travel for everyone.
Motorists who choose to travel during winter storms should pack an emergency kit. A full list of recommended items is available at azdot.gov/KnowSnow.
Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the AZ511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.

A multi-day severe weather outbreak is expected in the Mississippi Valley into the Lower Ohio Valley this afternoon into Saturday and through the Central Gulf states on Saturday. Significant tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, and large hail are likely. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will bring extremely critical fire weather conditions to the Southern Plains today.
