Severe Weather Threat This Weekend
A severe weather threat is in place from the Mississippi and Ohio valleys across the Southeast starting this weekend for the final days of March.
According to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, damaging winds, very large hail and a few tornadoes are all potential threats.
Timing
A new storm system could fire up a few severe storms as soon as Saturday night in the Midwest, but the more widespread potential is expected Sunday and Monday.
-Sunday-Sunday Night: The threat area stretches across the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. That includes St. Louis; Little Rock, Arkansas; Louisville, Kentucky; and Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee.
Driving in severe weather conditions like damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes can be extremely dangerous.
Here are some safety tips to follow:
NEVER USE CRUISE CONTROL IN SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS!
THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF JACKKNIFING!
Slow down – High speeds make it harder to control your vehicle in gusty winds.
Be cautious on bridges and overpasses – Winds can be stronger in open areas.
Avoid stopping under overpasses – This can cause traffic hazards and congestion.
Find shelter – Look for a parking garage, gas station canopy, or any sturdy cover.
Your safety—and the safety of your truck and trailer—are more important than anything else.
No load, deadline, or delivery is worth risking your life.
If conditions become too dangerous, find a safe place to pull over and wait it out.
Call your dispatcher and update about the traveling conditions.
Stay alert, make smart decisions, and remember: it’s always better to arrive late than not at all.
Thank you for your hard work!
